Has anyone here at GJF ever purchased tools from a place called Thorlabs?

Or maybe even heard of them before?

I searched here in the forum but only found one mention of the name Thorlabs and thats it?

I had been contemplating about maybe making a purchase of a few select tools from them but wanted to know if anyone knew more about them, such as to exactly what country are the tools made and the quality, etc.

I buy from Thorlabs quite a lot. They’re first rate up and down the line. And all orders come with Lab Snacks.
Those ball drivers are the old style Bondhus USA by the way.

I drive by them all the time, and work with a few people that use to be there. Never knew they made tools!

How are the quality of the tools from there?

Are some tools made in the US and others foreign ?

What the heck is Lab Snacks?

I needed some microscope parts and Google led me to Thorlabs. My parts showed up and included a bunch of treats (candy/snacks). Yeah, it's a gimmick, and I know that I actually paid for it indirectly, but it still made me smile. I can't speak to their broader tool offering.

A large part of their market is academic research labs (speaking as a laser spectroscopist) where grad students are making the purchases. Including Lab Snacks in the order is a cheap way to create a lot of good will!

Well after directly contacting THORLABS and inquired with questions and what not, went ahead an placed my very first order with Thorlabs. 👍

Both kits are made in the USA by Bondhus.

Both kits are in stock and should be shipped out today with delivery estimated by this coming Saturday. 🤞

Hopefully I won't be disappointed.
