Just snagged this set on the bay and am wondering if anyone can tell me what I am missing from this set from the pictures. These are some of the sellers pictures. I will provide my own pictures when it arrives. I am also hoping someone can provide the literature for this set from the original catalog. Thank you all in advance for any help you can provide.

I would assume that you are correct. It was pretty common to add a spinner to a set that didn’t come with one. They usually had open stock items alongside the complete sets in case you lost or broke an individual tool. With Thorsen it was more frequent to lose one than to break one. They were pretty stout tools. I think I posted that entire flyer in the Thorsen thread.

Hey Don -

I don't see a tommy bar in your kits or in the ad. Is it your understanding Thorsen didn't supply them in socket sets?

Well funny enough I found the spinner at a garage sale today for .50 cents and got two Thorsen sockets. Now just have to wait and see if the two sockets will be needed from what’s missing from my incoming set. Does your spinner match the one I got today?

BB,
I try to include crossbars in my sets when possible but I don’t really remember seeing any Thorsen ones in any sets. Do you have any sets with one? There are holes in the flex handles so anything is possible. They aren’t shown in my flier, though.
Captain,
That spinner does look like the one in my set although Thorsen has made several different models.

Does your spinner say 80M on it? I guess it doesn’t really matter because it’s not included in this set anyways but just curious.

I believe that is the part number on my spinner in the set. Looks like your set is coming along. Where are you located? I don’t get out to the valley much but I’ve had a couple of successful trips to the Galt and Stockton fleas.

Got the set in a few days ago but really haven’t even looked at it yet. Just need to see what sockets I am missing and hunt them down!

Thanks again for all the help.

I didn't see a universal piece in any of the sets in the pictures. I have always kept universals around for all sizes. Not needed always but when they are they are a lifesaver.

I like Thorsen tools. Don't heave enough.

Why don’t you post up the sizes of the ones you’re missing? When I get a chance I’ll check to see if I have duplicates. I have quite a bit of Thorsen.

That would be great! I did start a thread in the wanted section but I should definately post what I need here as well.

Sockets needed: 6pt. 3/8”, 7/16”
8pt. 3/8”

Just need a few!

I went through my 1/4” Thorsen today and have these extra tools. Your missing 3/8” 6 point socket is covered. Which style matches your set? PM me your address and it’ll be on its way.

The 7/16 6 point is on the left, the 3 each 3/8 8 point are on the right.

I picked up this Thorsen set a month or two ago, and just added the driver handle; it wasn't part of the original set but is a nice addition.

Interestingly, my brother has the exact same set that he bought new in 1970, note the price difference on the label...I figure mine must be a couple years newer.

Here's a complete one I used to have, model 1411. All it came with, were 9 sockets and a spinner.
