I have tried to get a pair of thorsen pliers exchanged for a working pair for almost a year and i finally got an email from olympia tools (which owns thorsen apparently). Here is what it said,

Thorsen Tools was a part of the Olympia Group which was liquidated in a
bankruptcy auction in 2006.
Another party purchased the Thorsen Tool name.
Best regards,
Phyllis

If Thorsen went bankrupt and Olympia picked up the name then you're SOL. Olympia has no obligation to honor any previous warranty.

Any replacement would be in the name of consumer goodwill.

He said olympia told him they sold off thorsen to someone else

If Olympia bought Thorsen before bankruptcy then he might have a claim. However if Thorsen declared bankruptcy and during liquidation Olympia bought the Thorsen name then there's no obligation on the part of Olympia.

(just like when MTD aquired the Troy Bilt brand during Garden Way's bankruptcy. MTD was not obligated to honor the lifetime Troy Bilt transmission warranty).

I'm guessing it's a lost cause.
Even if it was to be replaced, would you really want the new stuff from them?

we are talking about a pair of pliers here... Why wouldn't they just sent them to him. Stupid decision could have had a lifetime customer for like 5 bucks at cost.

I agree. Seriously how many people are going to be calling them to get thorsen tools waranteed? It's like this restaurant that I started frequenting until they told me that there was a charge for extra grating cheese on the pasta I ordered. WTF is that all about? They lost a customer over 5 cents worth of grating cheese.

Sounds like Olympia doesn't own Thorsen. Why should they be responsible for warranty?

Are these vintage USA Thorsen pliers?

Regardless, you are better off finding a replacement pair on eBay, though I do understand your frustration.
