so, if you remove that fancy soft handle, does it just become a regular ratchet? is the soft handle just a slip on part that could be attached to a regular ratchet, of is the bottom of the handle molded differently for the soft handle?

i am specifically wondering about snap-on, but have an interest in other brands, too . . . .

No, it doesn't. The handle is cast in a way to hold on the grip (wingy things...).

The soft grips are replaceable I like the hard handle on soft grips but you must tweak shank a screw driver handle will be easy too

There soft grips attracts oils even after cleaning

I hate how sticky they get the old red, orange, green handles where so much better looks wise and they didn't get sticky they were a harder materiel as well only downside was they shown oil and dirt more. They changed them to show less dirt and to be softer for more comfortable grip and to match the rest of thier tools. It ***** bad

if you don't like the soft handles then just remove them and install a screwdriver handle or you can make a custom aluminum piece that is either shaped or knurled depending what you would prefer

Custom aluminium knurled is way forward, I done this to a few ruined softgrip ratchets and items to give them new life after seeing some done on here.
current snapon soft grips do indeed get tacky.
Got soft grips but to be honest prefer metal handles most scenarios .
