Does the smell ever go away? No odor until motors running and no leaks in the system.

There is a slight oder from mine when lowering. I don't find it unpleasant but my shop has a lot of different smells floating around.

Yeah,
I don't like the smell of the DEX III ATF either when the pump runs. Noticed it the first day of use wafting out of the breather vent.
The ATF stinks!

It's a sealed system, so you shouldn't be smelling anything. You might have a leak somewhere, or the recovery tank is venting perhaps.

My garage smelled REALLY bad when the lift was installed. After two days it was gone.

It is NOT a sealed system.
The reservoir is vented to the atmosphere.
If it were not, the reservoir would collapse
from vacuum when the fluid is pumped into
the cylinders. You might rig up a hose to
vent the air further way, maybe in the attic
or something.

And the problem is that whenever you are operating the hoist your nose is within 6" of the vent. It's a lot better if you stand off to the side a bit.

of the seven lifts in our shop, all of which uses ATF, one does smell when lowering the vehicle. While the smell is sometimes bad, it is no where as bad as the body builder tech
beside me farting out his muscle milk and power bars.

I use ATF because it flows quicker when cold as compared to Hydraulic fluid. Also has good cleaning properties.

It's Mobil drextron II doesn't smell in either Bendpak I have.

You got one of them to huh?
Mines the Service Manager.

But for the lift.... hose on vent tube, routed away from you.
