those with multiple vices... i mean vises

folks those of you with mulitple vises, and i mean multiple(3,4,5,6+). and you u know who u r (me included), what do u do for storage of these gorgeous vises after restoring them. do u just let them sit out and collect dust and dirt on a shelf ???

They are bolted to stands or benches so they can be used.

4 (soon to be 5) are bolted to benches, 5 sit on top of the bar in the garage, 2 are on the small drill press, 4 are sitting on a tool cart, 1 is sat on the floor, the rest are somewhere in the garage

One of mine is on the bench, another is bolted to a board that I clamp to my bench if needed, and the one I'm currently restoring is going to go on a stand.

Ditto. I have 6. All bolted to work surfaces. Two in the wood shop, one on the main workbench, one on the side workbench, one on the welding table, and one in the garage.

Come to think of it, I could use a second one on the welding table . . . .

Two are tiny and vintage, and are displayed in the living room corner cabinet as antiques (wife allows this because they are 'cute vises').

Three others are also antiques, two of which are bolted to my bench, and one is on the shelf in the garage for now (but I can still see it ...)

I have several, but my best advise is to make sure two line up on whatever bench you use most. I can grip larger items or just long items in both vises to help steady them. I use them this way when I rough cut longer pieces of tubing so the cut end doesnt fall out of the way.

man it must be nice to have all that bench space or space in general, i only have room for two vises, on my bench

the other vises will b spares in case (knock on wood) if one of the vises fail for one reason or another

1. JMHO, I don't restore vises. I put them back in good fettle and put them to work
2. Athol and Wilton on bench in the garage, Parker on a bench in the basement and Eron and Holland on a bench in the storage garage.
3. The extras go down the road. If you want people to think you are really weird, tell them you have a vise collection. Hoarding vises is akin to hoarding cats, except there is no Society For the Prevention of Cruelty to Vises.

My little chinese 3 1/2" id screwed to my bench, my dads 4" record is bolted to his, and the little baby vice is clamped on the grinder stand.

My Dad's the biggest non tool-guy ever. (He has to look at the instructions on a screwdriver to see which end to hold). When he came into my barn and saw that I had a dozen or so vises in various stages of restoration he thought I'd completely lost my mind. Of course, he may be right.

Right now I might have around 25 vises. They will sit, covered in "Deep Creep" rust preventive until I clean them up. Once cleaned, they may sit a week or two until I sell it. I don't keep any refinished vises laying in my garage because they don't stay fresh looking for long. Thats just me though.

Wilton 400N bolted to the workbench. Good compromise of being compact and extremely sturdy.
Wilton C2 waiting for a bigger shop.
Wilton 9450 looks too nice to beat on right now, so it it is my shelf queen vise! Someday I'll put it into regular use get it greasy and dinged up like all great vises should be...

I have two in my shop. both are mounted on a bench to be used. I don't buy too many things I dont need/use like 5 or 10 vices... what could you possibly need with all those?
