My aged selection of Craftsman and Stanley cold chisels has always been a bit lacking.
Not to mention what I do have are beat pretty hard. But hey, that's what they're made for. :)
I know cold chisels can be redressed.

Anyway, I needed a good 5/8" cold chisel today and stopped at a convenient True Value hardware store to see what they had to offer. I was not expecting much there, but, if it was a bust I had other options a short drive away.

They had a very full inventory of DascoPro chisels that are Made In The USA.
I got what I wanted and used it to whack off some small rivet heads. I think it is very nice. So nice in fact that I think I may purchase a comprehensive set of these since my hodgepodge of dull steel sticks always leave me wishing for more/better.

I think my mind is made up on these but just wondered if any of you guys ever heard of or use them.
PLUS USA Made is always a big thing on here. As it should be.

You're probably going to get negative reviews on here. I own one or two, not bad for the money. They have held up, but I not have really beaten on them. Your own experience is what matters most!

You do also know Sears warranties punches and chisels, yes?

I did not beat on this new one hard either to really prove it's worth. I guess maybe that's why I posted about them.

I did not know Sears would warranty chisels. Truth be told I've used these Craftsman chisels enough over the years that I really can't complain about them not holding up for their cost.
But thanks for the tip! I may see what they will do next time the wife drags me near the mall where my nearest Sears is. I have nothing to lose except for giving back my USA chisels for (I'd bet) not made in USA chisels.

I have a few, no issues and I have wailed on them. Heck I've even used them for hot work when forging. I buy most of my chisels and the like used, often with a huge mushroom on them. Wondering how the PO actually used them.

I prefer the unpainted cold chisels made by Mayhew because the painted ones always chip and rust. Also Mayhew is made in USA, and makes for many of the big automotive brands.

I have heard of Mayhew and all I've heard has been very good.

Other than online; Where do you guys purchase Mayhew?
Have you ever seen them in a B&M store?

I use the same, they work fine for what I do, just hobby type stuff in the garage.

I actually sharpened mine and dressed the mushroom on my bench grinder the other day for the fun of it.

They're still us made.

I find it funny how everyone bashes sears for going to china with cman, yet they have no qualms telling folks to warranty stuf from hard use/abuse.

I 2nd this, I just (2-3 weeks ago) warrantied a c-man chisel that I bought about 6 years ago that was painted red made by western forge. In return I got a another western forge made chisel that clearly said made in the USA but it had a nice black finish.

I have a few Dasco Pros and like them as well.

Of course my SK Chisels are my favorite.

I do not own any Mayhew chisels but if they are anything like the pry-bars they must be nice.

I have also used Dasco brand chisels for years. They are well-made and the price is reasonable.

I've been very happy with the few that I have. You can get some really good deals when you buy them in sets.

I haven't used Dasco, but I have used Wilde quite a bit and Enderes as well. Both are USA made by small, independent companies. Both have held up well for me.

I haven't broken any of the larger dasco chisels I have. Some of the smaller ones either bent or chipped way too easy.

The punches are junk. It's like trying to drive out a pin with a wet noodle.

I bought snappy chisels and punches and have been extremely happy. Also have used mayhew, starrett, and Mac with good success.

There is a tool store in Salem that I stop at when in the area that stocks Mayhew. (they also happen to be the only store I know of around here that stocks SK.)
