I can get a Plus kit for $350....$50 less than cheapest street price... very tempted by this. Anyone have one and use it a lot? seems very useful.

I'm especially interested in it's sanding capability..

I dont have much to say, but that its the best. I have 2 kits and use them for everything. You cant beat German engineering, but your going to have to pay for it. Im a woodworker and finish carpenter, The best tools that I have are german made. Festool, Fein. The multimaster has been around for a long time, and now these companies are making their own versions. Id stay away from the cheap **** and get the real thing if I were you, but in the end, your the one paying the money. You know how I feel, but if you dont go with the Fein, I highly recommend you going with a corded version, with this type of tool, you need the full power all the time! Trust me! Hope this helps.

I just bought the Bosch MultiX corded on Monday and I am still in AMAZEMENT. I have to say it is the finest tool I have ever purchased. I made several cuts that no other tool, hand or power, could have reasonably made. I have tried a Fein before and it may have been fired up or the blade rigged but the Fein would not cut straight like this machine.

I've had a Fein for about a year and I have to say it's one of the best quality tools I've ever used. I agree with getting the corded model. The cord is very long and the extra power provides a continuous, high powered use. Good luck, I know it isn't cheap, but if you do much woodwork it is worth every penny.

It's better than anything from the competition by far, but Fein also makes the SuperCut. Twice the power, and a longer stroke if you've got the budget. I've pushed blades with no teeth left, through wire reinforced stucco with it.

that sounds mean! I think it's close to $800 for that one however...

I got mine for $125 on craigslist, but the blades will still put you in the poorhouse.
I actually machined an adapter so I could use the blades from the Craftsman multitool.

Actually, you can get the 250Q Select Plus for $312 at Amazon. If you mean the Top Plus, you can get that for $299 from Amazon, but it's from one of their vendors called Hardware Sales Inc. In all my checking it seems to be a new Top Plus they are selling and not refurbished, but I was too chicken to order it, being that it's $100 cheaper than almost everyone else.

I do believe the Fein MultiMaster is probably still the best oscillating tool out there, but you are paying a hefty price to own one. Porter Cable just came out with their oscillating tool which also has the tooless blade change system. You can see the Porter Cable in person at Lowe's stores, but it's cheaper to by from Amazon ($115 vs. $134). Amazon was selling it for just $109 last week, but they tend to raise their prices a bit when at items starts selling real well.

With the assortment of blades and sanding pieces that comes with the Porter Cable I couldn't justify not buying it for $109. I have only used the tool to cut some studs and some drywall, but it was a pleasure to use. I would have been very frustrated getting out a little allen wrench each time I wanted to rotate the cutting blade to a new position. I can tell already that my RotoZip is going to see a lot less use now.

Edit: I forgot to comment about you wanting to primarily use the oscillating tool to sand with. In all the research I did last week on oscillating tools, before I decided on the Porter Cable, the only real negative comments I came across about the Fein were related to sanding. It seems that some of their sanding attachments use a hook and loop system which is glued to the attachment. When people are sanding they are heating up the attachment to the point that the glue is failing or something like that. Check out all the reviews on Amazon. Be sure to read the reviews for each of the MM models, not just the one you are interested in, because they all use the same sanding attachments (to my knowledge). One reviewer said that when they complained to Fein that Fein told them the manual states not to use the tool above speed 2 when sanding. I guess that is a pretty easy thing to miss or forget to do, so people are melting their attachments because they are running them at normal speed.

I think your pricing info is off, I checked Amazon and the least the have the Top Plus is $399....

That's the minimum street price on that kit and anything less is going to be fishy... unless it's a going out of business sale, or something.. I am picking mine up in person from my local hardware store and I buy literally thousands of dollars of tools from there, thus the price break..

Big plus for me on the Fein over the others, is the Made in Germany... I do like that and think it's worth a hefty premium.
