Thoughts on International 75" Tool box?

I found this site looking for my 1st tool box and because of the posts I saw on this site, I was going to get the 44" HF box. Then after visiting HF and looking at what they had, I wanted their 56" box. Well, I was all set to purchase it when I forgot my coupon. I then tried to order it online, but the HF website wouldn't take the coupon code.... Made me feel like HF wasn't for me...

Ok... I started to look for a different box, and was thinking hard about the International 56" box when I came across the 74" International box @ Costco (http://www.costco.com/Browse/Produc...&lang=en-US&Sp=C&ec=BC-EC26245-Cat860&topnav=) It's a bit bigger then what I want and way over what I wanted to spend, but I'm thinking I could fill it pretty quick.

Being it's way more then what I wanted to spend and not being able to find much in review, the question is... What's the general consciences on the International box? It's for home use, and based on it's size, I'm hoping it would be the 1st and last box I would need to purchase.

So what say the members of Garage Journal?

I think it should be something you need to get your hands on it first to see how it feels.

455 lb for 75" seem mighty thin sheet metal. It might be ok for home use though.

For that money I would go for two of HF 56" or find nice used Truck brand box.

We have an international 56" with top cabinet and side box and paid just a little over that price. It's a pretty good box for the money but it is slightly lighter duty than I would like. If given a chance to do over again, I think I would buy a few of the HF boxes instead. You get more room, heavier boxes and if you buy all bottoms, just put a counter top across them all.

They are Canadian made... they have heftier boxes too, but of course the price climbs. I think the "SHD" version (73", 21 drawer) sells for around $3600-$4000 online. But it's 771lbs vs 405lbs, according to one vendor's site.

Actually, it turns out that the one we got was one of the made in china ones from right before they switched back to made in canada, which is why it was on sale I would guess. They might be a little more beefy now. It's an ok box, just obviously not snap-on quality, but the price wasn't either

For those of you who have experience in this area, when it says "curbside delivery" is that really all you can expect? In other words, the truck driver isn't going to be willing to back into my driveway, but is only going to drop it off at the bottom? I don't have a curb at the bottom of my driveway, just a strip of grass before the road. If this thing was dropped on the ground down there, I'd have to figure out some way to pick it up and get it up the driveway, which has a pretty good incline.

Just thinking ahead.

I placed an order on this unit last week also. Will let you guys know what I think when it arrives. Like others said, return policy was the deciding factor. I'm thinking to have them load it into my pickup from the warehouse. I'll unbox it at home in the driveway and then wheel it down ramps from the bed straight into the garage.

Can't wait to have my scissors lift installed also....I think I've crawled under a car long enough.

I know the box your talking about and even considered it myself but its a thin metal box that will be OK for a few years but not a box you will have for a lifetime I would think. I have some pic's from a member from this site and the Super Heavy duty Version of it that you can get from Napa.

I think the box will be fine for me. Plus, being I ordered from Costco, I can return it any time for any reason and either get my money back or have them replace it. You can't beat Costco's warranty.

yeah I hear ya! I wanted to get the 72" wide box from strictly tools but the shipping would cost me $600 plus duty and all... so it wasn't worth it! also all those International boxes you can order from Napa or sears though there usually a little more.

Well, you can go by feel. Does the box feel sturdy, do the drawers feel smooth when loaded up etc. Most amateurs are going to be able to relate to feel and reported function more than anything else, myself included.

oh I will! because I have not found a single good pic of it but I'm still looking for a good used tool box and almost found one yesterday but it was sold right away, 55" Matco with canopy plus wireless impacts for $2000 but it was 6 hour drive too so tough call what to do...

My budy bought a box from Montezuma. He is very plesed with it and uses it every day. Not sure the exact model but it does seem to be 72". Might give them a look. I am going to check them out after my shop goes up. Definetly less money than a tool truck box

Just a quick update on the box. Kingsway delivered right into my garage with a handtruck. From what I see so far, this box is more than adequate for home use.....imho. Maybe the snap-on and others have heavier sheet metal and drawers that slide like butter but you're also paying more than twice the price. If you're worried about this box lasting just buy two of them for the price of one snap-on. The only thing I would have preferred was a wood top instead of the rubber mat.....but I can easily change this myself.

Box showed up today... New Penn handled the delivery to my home from the terminal... Well, New Penn brought it in with an 18 wheeler without a liftgate. If I didn't have a tractor with pallet forks, there's no way the driver could have unloaded it.

The packaging was done very well... I tried to unpack it, but I had to get back to work. I'll get to unpacking tomorrow... Here's a pic.

I'll get some more pix once I can really start unpacking it.

@ Dallas.. Quick question... Can you tell me if the wheels were attached or if you had to bolt them on?

Ok... I got it unpacked and setup and can tell you a few things..

1. The paint finish is really good, but they could have done some more prep work. What I mean by this is that if the light hits it just right or you're up close and looking, you can see the spot welds.

2. The pre-drilled holes, on the ends of the box, for the handles don't like up for proper mounting of the handles. The holes needs to be drill about a mm lower. If you try to mount the handles, using the holes, you till bend the upper part of the sheet metal a bit. I didn't mount the handles because my box will not be moved and there was no way it would have fit where I put it, with the handles.

3. I like the slide rails on this better then the HF US General boxes. I do have one that doesn't want to shut quit right, so you have to jiggle it at times.

4. Other then the finish, I think the 54" HF box is a better box. This thing is a fine box, but seems to have a few QC issues. So much for "Made in North America".

So off the bat, that's my impressions on it. I really can't say this is a great or bad box because this is my 1st ever tool box and I haven't really used any other boxes. I've opened the drawers on Snap-on, Mac and what not, because my friend use to be a shop foreman at a Ford dealership, but I never really used them.

For me, this box works, but I have a feeling I'll need another. I haven't even gotten all my tools in it and it's over 80% full. I didn't realize how many tools I had...

BTW, the wheels came preinstalled on the box.

Basically the international values series is their second from the bottom of their toolbox lineup.

I had mine and it was good enough for a homeowner. Sold it and got a snap on later.

Not to hijack this thread, but I received their SHD series top chest - I had their bottom SHD box and had absolutely no issues with it whatsoever. The chest, however, was delivered and was not "square". It would not sit on top of the matching bottom box properly (it rocked back and forth), and after putting a small square against it, one side was off by quite a bit. Even by eye, it looked horrible. The chest it was exchanged with is much better, but there is one drawer that sticks more than the others, and that is due to the slides. I am sure they will last me, and they are better than what CDN Tire and Home Depot sells this side of the border. Needless to say, I will be writing to the company to tell them of the issues I encountered, and hopefully that will bring the QC up a notch!

If you have low profile stuff, see if you can get more low height drawers. I did this on my 72" 15 drawer Montezuma and increased the sq ft storage by about 14000 sq in. It cost some bucks but there I plenty room and I'll likely used the drawers some day under a large work table, maybe.

I have a Value series as well and am curious what the heavier duty stuff feels like. To be fair though, after looking at the pricing, you can get into a used Snap-On for what they go for and at that point I'd rather go SO. I bought my 56" value series for $550 used and that was a lot for me, so chances are I won't ever be spending anywhere near $1500-$2000 on a tool box.

Costco will only have the Homak boxes. Where are you located? Have you considered the HF box?

The Rousseau IMO, is of the highest quality I've ever seen. I've seen them at school, the slides this box has I've never seen on anything.

Nonetheless, I really want see this 75" wide box, if someone in the GTA has one I would buy the gentleman whom lets me see his box a coffee.
