Thoughts on life after "SK day"

Still waiting for my order, but that's cool - I know they (HJE) are workin' hard and I'm in no hurry. Eager, yes...but in a hurry, no.

I keep checking in on the SK-day sticky and reading the updates, and I see a recurring theme, i.e. "When is the next *** day?" Like everybody, I love the special buy days and gladly support them, but that doesn't mean we should ONLY buy on those days. Seems to me that to maintain the real spirit of the event, we should do what we can to support HJE, SK, and other vendors that participate on a year-round basis, rather than just when there's an event.

It'd be a shame if HJE saw their SK sales disappear after our initial success. I know there are things I forgot or didn't have the money for on SK day - when I can, I'll order them sooner rather than wait for the next event.

Just my opinion...worth what you paid for it.

Same here as well. Notably, the 1/2" drive, 24" breaker bar I failed to include in my original order

I'll wait until I receive my SK Day order rather than increase the pandemonium that is the current state of the HJE shipping dept.

I'll order more. I'd really like the 49 piece 3/8 set for the car I also ordered a wrench just to see what it was like and I wish I would've got a set

I was going to add on to my order but noticed my credit card was charged. I'm hoping a shipping notice is coming soon. Gonna order more soon anyways.

It is a good excuse to buy on these days. I buy used frequently as well. If anyone has any ideas on the next one, and I hope there is a next, let us know!

What about like 1 item goes on a 2 day special once a month, gets you a really good deal on something and since you paying shipping you could add other items.

My funds are low...Sigh:(

Story I heard as a little boy it goes something like feed a man a fish and he will not be hungry for that day, teach him to fish and he will be set for life or something along those lines.

Moral we helped them on that one day but they need strong sales for the whole year.

So this is how I do my part in helping the HJE company survive for the whole year; Everyone I meet that has an interest in tools I tell them about the HJE company, how they can find them on the web, how fast they ship, great prices, fantastic service and a pleasure to deal with in this day and age.:rocker:

In other words I am their salesman at large so should everyone else on the GJ be there salesman at large so they can keep going for another 100 years.

So how about it my GJ brothers and sisters the challenge is up to you all to spread the word.:rocker:

I am very impressed with the quality of the stuff I bought on SK day. Obviously I'll have to see how it holds up long-term but it seems like quality tools. SK will definitely be on my short list of brands to look at when I need hard-line tools.

With the changes SK has gone through, it seems important to make sure you're getting new stock, which means having a good SK dealer. For me that will be HJE, so I will definitely be buying more SK from Epstein's in the future.

I agree with the OP. Very good points.

interesting and timely topic. i just hung up the phone with jori. i had a question on my order or more precisely my email address (no, not on why don't i have it yet but it should be here today). he said store traffic has picked up on sk and orders keep trickling in. i won't quote him but the vibe i picked up is that he was happy and optimistic with how sk was doing in their store.

I will continue to hit up HJE. The few extra bucks it costs vs buying from other outlets is worth it. HJE goes out of their way to make a purchase an "experience". Can't be mad at that.

I ordered from HJE for the first time because of SK day(s). I have SK tools from the old days and have been very satisfied with them. I was very happy to read of SK's rebirth if you will and will make my future purchases of tools from HJE if the tools are of the quality I expect and have read from those who have received their orders.

Great perspective. Here's my concern.

The one obstacle that most of the membership here is facing, is that there are three big events coming up, that most people are banking up for.

Thanksgiving (family travel, etc.)
Black Friday (shopping, deals, $10 big screens, etc.)
Christmas (family + shopping + travel, etc.)

That will decrease the ability for some to bank up for another "SK Day" or something of the like.

Yes, it was wonderful to push all of that activity into one day. We made our mark. However, it may be a while before we can see another day like that, which can be mutually beneficial- due to holiday finances being allocated for other things.

Here is a video on how I learned about SK Day!

Jacko :bounce:

SK will become my new Snap-on. Because when I purchased my Snap-on tools starting in the late 1980's until the early 2000's, I was promised service with the sale for LIFE... Now I cannot get a snappy guy to come to my shop to take care of me to save my life... I have complained to corporate... fell on deaf ears... talked to my local Rep, his reply was that Snap-on franchise drivers were only interested in customers that carried a weekly balance. In other words I was told to take a leap. I have spent well over 100k with snappy over the years and I say NO MORE! Not only does the service stink... BUT too many tools sold by Snap-on are coming from China and Taiwan (which I thought I would never see). It is refreshing to see a company like SK care about American made quality tools, I am impressed and they will get my hard earned money.
