I am not a professional but enjoy having good quality tools that last a long time. I am looking at replacing alot of my craftsman tools with MAC as I get a HUGE discount with my company that I work for.
What are your thoughts on the Tech tool boxes vs. the Maximizer series. What are the differences. Any first hand experiences are greatly welcome on both boxes and any tool advice. Thanks in advance.

From my physical contact with MAC boxes, the Tech series and the Macsimizer series were on the same level quality and gage thickness, but that was several years ago.

It's the Economizer series that was garbage, but they were not made by MAC.

I own a macsimizer mb1860 and can say the quality is top notch I have no problems with my hand tools and sockets either, on the otherhand I have had problems with regular dealers or lack of..... that shohld be your concern should you need to warranty anything.

If you have a regular dealer as mentioned and good pricing than thats great. I can say first hand the macsimizer has a better build/feel than the tech series, definately an upgrade in quality.

Zcheck the mac website for precise details in differences.

Good sockets (all types-chrome, impact and universal are all excellent)

Good wrenches (all types-ratcheting are Taiwan but good quality, new standard length combos are Proto ASD copies and as such have a nicer beam than the old school squared corners in my opinion)

Brand new USA made screwdrivers look promising and have been receiving praise here.

Double knurled extensions are excellent, available in both chrome and locking chrome.
Most other socket accessories are on par with the competition. They do have some interesting new things like socket extensions with a soft grip handle built around the drive end so you can use them like a screw driver, likewise they have locking universal adapters.

Good selection of pneumatic tools, the new impact wrenches in particular are very nice.

Home grown pear head ratchets are antiquated. Any round head or quick release ratchet is a rebrand from Italy or Taiwan.

Pliers are passable junk, but priced accordingly for a truck brand. There are a few rebadged Knipex and Channellock tossed in but by in large they're mostly Asian.

When it comes to their domestic hardline, cosmetically, they have some of the nicest chrome of any USA manufacturer. One of the few that have tried to leave the tint a bright chrome as opposed to the darker color that has become more common with the switch to the newer trivalent plating process.

Really nice storage, save the carts which are still following an old school design scheme. That is to say they have nothing with drawers down the entire length.

Basically if its stamped both MAC and USA its generally top of the line. If its stamped MAC and nothing else or MAC+Asia COO, just do a little research but its probably fine.

I agree on this.

I use alot of mac stuff and its great. Chrome on sockets has held up better than my snappy s. Good boxes as well. Had a tech 1000 for a while and it was a good box. Nothing bad to say at all.

i have a lot of mac stuff (and a lot of snap on, cornwell, sk, craftsman, matco ect as well) and i love it. i have a healthy mix of everything but when i needed a new toolbox, i chose a Mac Tech series. i love it and could not be happier with the choice.

My biggest issue with Mac is finding a truck worth a damn.. Around here the reps are useless and I've seen ours like 3 times in 2 yrs.. Not that it mattered cause his truck didn't have squat on it... I love my macsimizer 1350 built like a tank

If you're getting a HUGE discount then what's there to think about? Take advantage of the deal and load up on as much as you can. My co worker has a maximizer box and it's solid. My tools consist of mostly snap on but I have a few macs in there too.

My thoughts on Mac?

Well they were once great tools, and some of their hard line stuff still is(wrenches, sockets(except"edge"sockets),ratchets, screwdrivers, tool boxes) good stuff.the rest is relabeled tools, most from china and some good stuff from facom in Germany, rest is Stanley and dewalt.i owned a lot of tools and a cart and a box from the same dealer, the box was warrantied within 5 months and has been great since except all plastic trimming including the emblems are peeling now.the cart was junk and the dealer bought it back wich was great but he never stopped buy again.changed his number, and worst part I still see his truck around town every couple full moons but he never stops by.its sad because I liked him and I tried to support him but I guess I was a bad customer?:dunno:

Good tools. Can't speak on their boxes. Biggest hassle is lack of a dealer.
