I have an opportunity to get a Magic Molder molding head for my table saw. It comes with 3 sets of cutters, one of which I might use. The seller wants $150. New the head is $159. The cutters are $139 for one set. So this seller has a set that would run $576 new. There doesn't seem to be any used cutters for sale on Ebay or CL. It gets great reviews: quiet, cuts well, etc.

Anyone here have one? Is it really worth the money?

I can get older Craftsman molder sets for around $50. Most have just one cutter, some have 3. I'm not going to use this all the time and would like to have the ability to buy other cutters for other profiles.

My dad had an older Craftsman set, it scared the hell out of me. The noise and wind it created kept me FAR Away from the blade. Only used it once. YMMV. Was afraid of a cutter coming out, tightened them 4x before powering up.

I decided to pass on it. The cutters are just way too expensive for infrequent use. The seller was selling it because he bought a new TS with a 1" arbor.

These don't seem to be that common. There's little or none of these (cutters or the head) for sale on Ebay, CL or FBMP right now. And no one responded to this post about it specifically.

I can do most, if not all, of what I need with a router.

Yeah, I know what you mean! These are loud and scary. This Magic Molder seemed like it was quieter and safer. It was just way too much money, even used. Although, the seller made some comment about people listing stuff for way too much, he offering half and then them taking it to get the sale. Maybe I shoulda offered him half of his asking price.

A built for purpose molder scares the absolute hell out of me. You couldn’t pay me enough to run the old Craftsman radial arm saw or table saw conversion kits.

Picked this set up at an estate sake for $5. Cant wait to see how scary. Big push stick & captive rip fence sound like requirements.
