Seems that there is a decent consensus that for 1/2 better to spend the money on impacts, since I have a long handle 3/8, up to 24mm sockets and a slightly limited budget I can see the logic. I didn't see a lot of mention of SK but noticed that they have a 25 piece set that goes from 8mm through to 30 mm with a 32 and 36 tossed in and it seems to go for around 160. At less then 7.00 a piece it doesn't seem that bad for what is viewed as a good brand. My only SK is a 14mm wrench of indeterminate age that I have no clue how I got.

I have nothing to add other then that I've been looking at that set of wrenches as well. I need to put together a set for my service cart (just a home jobber) and they seem to be very reasonably priced.

I've been considering the Tekton set too.

I have their large size set of 30mm to 36mm or so and it has done what I needed them to from pitman arm nuts to hub nuts. Made in USA too.

I agree on the sentiment for just going with impact sockets for half inch. I do have a set of 12pt half inch with some SK, but I haven't got the SK impacts. I've got Pittsburgh pro for deep and Tekton for shallow, but I've never been dissatisfied with any of my SK pieces. I've got a smattering of regular half inch in my 12pt set, wrenches and a couple of 3/8.

Love my SK impact sockets...You will it be disappointed.

WTH does that mean???

SK is probably the only brand of impact sockets I haven't used, so can't say how they are. I'd bet they're good though. With that said, I purchased a few Sunex impact socket sets from my local tool distributor and he told me he no longer carries SK impacts because no one buys them. They buy Sunex instead. This is coming from a large retail distributor who sells on eBay and carries numerous brands from Gearwrench, Sunex, SK, etc.

I have had some SK impact sockets that I bought as far back as the mid seventies and have never broken one ever. The new ones I have are as new as six months and they all fit good and work great.

I would imagine, well, hope, that's a typo for "you will not be disappointed"

I did a double take as well. Haha

I have a number of SK hand tools, but no impacts. I've never been disappointed with any of their tools, and would expect the impacts would preform as well as the others

The hardware store where I worked in the 70s sold SK as their top brand with a lifetime warranty. Very very rarely had a return. We liked their stuff!!!

I have SK 1/2 drive impacts on my cart at work. They have served me well. they are durable, don't appear to share blanks, and are available in a wide range of sizes. Speaking of sizes, I would skip some of the sets though and make your own set when there's a sale somewhere. I get that you guys want every possible size but, are you ever really going to use 1/2 drive on something smaller than say, 13mm? How about that 20mm socket? if you need to stretch your tool budget, buy the sizes you'll actually need on sale

Proto makes some nice impact sockets too:bounce:

I have a set of SK 3/8" metric and sae impact swivel sockets. I don't use them every day. But I've had zero issues with them. They're just as good as the rest of my SK tools. I've been very satisfied over all with SK. I actually intend to buy more SK, including impact sockets to replace some of the other brands in my shop box so I can move those brands to service truck box.

SK impacts work OK. I prefer sets that go all the way up to 36mm though. Something like the Sunex 2645 shallow and Sunex 2646 deep. If it started around 12-13mm it would be even better, but for the cost I don't care if they thrown in some smaller sizes I won't use.

Can't say for the new ones but I have a set of metric and sae shallow impacts. That I have had since 85-86 never have broke one yet and they have been used plenty hard. I don't think you can go wrong with them.

No kidding! I'm amazed at some of the **** they put in sets. 1/2's go down to 10mm. And even less sensible are the 1/4's going to 15mm. I had initially planned to do that, but it is a little less expensive to just **** it up and buy the whole set.

Thousands of years ago, nobody had a 3/8 impact wrench. If you were using an impact wrench it was 1/2" (or larger.) So--back then--I understood why they included small sizes in the 1/2" impact socket sets.

Now that 3/8 impact wrenches are common, there's no need for the smaller sizes in 1/2" drive. 3/8 impact wrenches now have more torque than my old 1/2" gun had. Which may explain the larger sizes of 3/8" sockets--they're for guys who quit using the 1/2" impact wrench.

I suppose that the larger sizes in 1/4" drive are a nod to the ever-decreasing tool clearance provided in modern automobiles.

I have SK4047 & SK4049 (6pt deep metric and fractional-1/2 drive). I also have SK 46164 (extensions).

Love em. They work awesome.

All my swivel impact sockets were Snap-On that I bought new many years ago, until I bought some SK, used from eBay.

The SK appear to be as nicely-made as the Snappies.

Snap-On has changed their design since I bought mine. What I liked about Snap-On was that they shielded the pivot pin with a sheetmetal collar, crimped to the socket. There was no possible way for the pivot pin to work it's way out of the socket.

Snap-On now welds the pin in position, and does not install the crimped collar. They call this an advantage, I call it cost-cutting. SK still uses the crimped collar.
