Hey all I am kind of new here. I have been thinking about doing stained concrete garage floors with a good sealer over top. Has anyone had experience with this good or bad?

I personally am not a fan of polished or stained in a garage, at least that you use regularly like most of us. If it's a "show garage" then go for it.

Polished can stain easily in a garage and most seals on stains are not up to the use and abuse, in addition to being slippery.

Epoxy is the way to go for most garages.

a stained and polished look can be achieved by combining the polishing process, adding stan and using high traffic clear coatings of epoxy and polyurethanes. Here are some successful samples of a honed concrete, stained and sealed with multiple coats of epoxy and polyurethane in satin finish.

I think a good place to start is how do you use your garage, what are you looking to achieve, what shape is the concrete in and who is doing the install.

As simple as it sounds, those few questions really help myself and my staff get our customers going in the right direction.

I had a gentleman call me this morning. He said he just parks his car in there like everyone else. He was wanting diamond flooring. "So you don't change your own oil?" "Of course I do".... "OK but that's it as far as maintenance"... "No I never said that"..... "OK do you use a creeper?"... "YES, all the time".... Needless to say a raised diamond floor was what he thought he wanted, but not what he needed.

If you finish your stained floor with an HD urethane or Xtreme Polyaspartic, you will have a finish that is extremely resistant to wear and chemicals.
This last coat can carry a clear non-skid for improved safety as well.

Jay just be advised if you follow his directions you're likely to not get the same color. you need to try it before you do it. I used the same color shown in legacies top picture in this thread. and my color came out turquoise, brown and slightly purple.

I have been looking for a few days now. I have to see how well I can prep the floor now. It had paint and carpet glue on it. I have to get that up before I can really start thinking about the staining.

jay8s, just remember that stain can highlight areas where glue was down, carpet strip tack holes that were repaired, and other irregularities. Most are aware of this and like that aspect about stain, but sometimes it catches people unaware.
