Thoughts on this Craftsman tool box on CL

Its been on CL for a few months now and for some reason it interests me. It appears to be older but I'm not well versed on the time period its from. Any idea what it would be worth?

I like the older style with individual drawer pulls. Metal looks straight. No Price listed--I'd offer $20-25, probably go to $30. Included tools worth nothing to me unless something extremely desirable.

I was thinking the same-$20-$25. I certainly don't need it but GJ has turned me into a tool box junkie.

Keep in mind, low balling a guy will get you no where. It is probably 40's - 60's time period. Worth least $50 offer, but if lets it go cheaper, good for you. I know some people on CL get **** hurt if you insult them with an low ball offer. Wish you luck and let us know how you do.

I like it. I don’t know how common it is to find one that straight. It seems in way better than average shape. Can’t see the corners very well.
I think it would be worth more than 50.

I agree with Jason on this one. Dont offend him. Personally I would contact the guy and ask him what his lowest is and barter from there. If it was me I wouldn't do more than 30-40. If he is set on more than that tell him thanks and politely move on.

I would grab that if it was local. 25-30 bucks is a good buy for you. 40 bucks is fair for both the buyer and seller. Anything more than 40, the seller is getting the better end of the deal.

I generally make an offer of what it's worth to me. If I'm concerned the owner might be insulted I let him know before I make the offer that my intent isn't to insult and I let him know my offer is what it's worth to me. So far people have appreciated it. I'm not batting 1.000 that's for sure though.

I'd be happy to get that box in the $30-$40 range.

Depends on where you live. Anything less than $50 is a "you ****" deal here in the Pacific NW. My low-ball offer would be $50. I'd consider it at $75.

Yea, we go through this all the time because you and I are on the opposite side of the country. lol

Around here in the mid Atlantic, you can find those mid century Craftsman boxes almost every day. I know the north eastern market well where the buyer lives too. I was born and raised in the Hudson Valley. I still have pickers in that area who send me stuff, but I digress...

OP, let us know if you pick this box up. It looks like a nice little resto project.

DAGS but couldn't come up with much.
I'm thinking about on par with the 7 drawer Home Depot sells for $150.00 every day.

I was finally able to meet up with the guy just now and picked up the box for $30. I also grabbed the Rubbermaid cart for $35. He didn't want to sell it at first but we bs'd about things for about an hour and he finally said ok take it. Nice old guy with a ton of **** he's selling. It was just too damn cold to look through it all. I'll be going back.

Given that why would you consider overpaying for some new **** when you could get something much higher quality, better looking and far far lower than you'd pay for new? Oh, is this one of those IQ survey/test? ;-)

You did great. If he is selling that white AC Delco cabinet in the background, grab that too.

As for your new Craftsman box, a quick polish of the handles will make it look 100 times better immediately. Eventually you can strip off the bad paint job and do a quality restoration.

The AC Delco cabinet is mine lol. Thats my garage.

The only "tools" in it we're a few screws, a Bernzomatic torch head, and a pair of Heyco waterpump pliers. They say Heyco Germany. Don't know much about them but they seem ok.
