Basically I love ripping things apart and building things, but I have very little idea of what I'm doing typically. When I go into the garage, I leave when my beer is gone or I can't see what I'm tinkering with anymore. With that being said this is what I'm working with.
I found this cheapo DIY workbench idea and said, yeah that would be cool to build for no other reason but to build something. I was working with a jigsaw, a Dewalt power drill that I got when I was 20 (I'm 32), and some recycled outdoor screws from a skateboard ramp I took apart while in college (about 15 lbs worth of 2 and 3" screws). So I built it. Can find my work here.
From there I got a buddy who runs a worldwide steel desk fab company and has headquarters about 2 hours from me. With his next load coming right down the interstate next to the house, he dropped off 8 3 drawer "filing cabinets" of highest steel quality (FREE). They are about 10 years old, but were sitting in shrink wrap in the warehouse. Each with 2 keys, each without a scratch, each with it's own hardware (casters, aluminum dividers). The boxes measure 26.5wx15wx17d. Asked him for something, anything instead of buying a toolbox. I've got 2 kids, but more then that I have a wife so spending is limited
Since I have built the table, I have acquired many other things and have done what I can with limited space and resources. So here is my setup and from the beginning of the bench, to the end of the bench, that is max space that I have. Of course I want to keep my 4 yr olds little bench near/next to mine because he likes to "tinker" as well, just without the beer. Any thoughts on how I can put it all together? Also, what you see on the ceiling is a lumber rack of acquisitions I have found, been given, etc. As you can probably decide, I tend to not like to spend money because that takes the fun out of it.
You can find my latest project here (and I reiterate, this was much bigger then I was capable of BUT I did get a miter saw for Christmas and wanted to use it). I started tinkering about 18 months ago.
