I have used a plastic bolt gauge for a few years to help with determining the correct bolt and thread gauge sizes in both standard and metric. Well now I have misplaced the gauge and am looking for a replacement. The gauge I misplaced was an inexpensive plastic unit but it worked well. What are your recommendations for a realistically priced unit? There are many differant versions available, I just need something basic for occasional use around the shop.
Thanks.
Jim

Define reasonable price?

I have a set of metric and SAE thread checkers, the ones like Ace stores often have. I think Thread Checker might actually be the brand name... It was like $30 each for metric and SAE, they go to 1" and M24 or so, or they have a combo for $30-40 that goes to about M16 and 3/4". Not the cheapest, but it does the job nice. Only pitfall is if you have a deeply recessed threaded hole or a bolt with a long unthreaded tip, but I suppose most designs would have that issue too...

If you'd like another of the plastic ones, I picked one up at Fastenal for around $8. I'm pretty sure they're all made by the same company, and I'm pretty sure all Fastenal branches keep a few on their shelves.

Otherwise, I'd like to get one of those Thread Checkers with the male and female threaded pieces. I can check bolts just fine with the plastic gauge, but if I need to check the thread pitch on a nut it doesn't do me any good.
