Question: Why was this thread deleted, which is referenced in another thread post:

Also, I seem to notice that some tool threads are moved to "Free Parking" which states it is about "Everything related to the toys we park in our garages." If that's just a free-for-all forum, maybe the description should be renamed. There are threads there that don't fit.

Finally, if any policies were broken, where are the forum rules located? I looked and could not find them.

I saw 3 duplicate threads at one point.

My guess is the threads got combined.

Not sure what "combined" means since even if that was the case the original post and comments from other threads appear deleted.

I get why the thread was deleted. Who likes broken links, though? I just want to add an observation. I've been using GJ as a lurker before I even registered 12 years ago, but I'm not a regular user. I drop by every so often, sometimes maybe a year or so between visits. This time I noticed that GJ has changed. I can't pinpoint exactly what changed but I just know it has. It might be a cultural change with the old ways of thinking moving on with old timers. It might just be that the country is changing. I do feel like there is a lot of politics injected here nowadays. Even with posts deleted there's a running subtext of politic that feels like it pervades the entire forum. And I don't know if there's any way to really eliminate it.

My idea of shop talk is sort of reminiscing about walking into a machine shop in 1989 to discuss an order and chatting it up. The machinists and mechanics didn't have politics on their minds, and they certainly didn't have any underlying agenda. Sometimes we ruminated about the state of products or parts coming out of the big manufacturers. The other stuff, like the kitschy Snap-On calendar hanging on the wall, was just background noise or even a spoof, nothing to take too seriously. Generally all we talked about was how to do great work with the best tools on the coolest jobs. The last local machine shop -- and there were several -- closed about a year and a half ago, and the machinist moved to Utah. He said he couldn't survive with the demands and the salary. I don't even know where to take parts now. It was a major cultural shift.

Absolutely agree with this - the politics thing is so out of hand that I try to escape it here.
I find I can easily get caught up in it, so yes, THANK YOU Ryan for running a shop where everyone gets along, or they go to the Internet Unenjoyment Office to file a "Butthurt Intake form" and be promptly ignored. :ROFLMAO:
(ps - I just looked it up - these have REALLY taken off recently.)
