Thread files

Can anyone give me an idea where I can buy thread files?
I've searched Northern Tool, Harbor Frieght, WT Tool, etc and so
far no one has them.

I don't know for sure what thread pitch I need,
what I need it for is cleaning up the threads on the binding posts
on a 1918 IP-500 which was a Navy receiver the binding posts have
had the ends of the threads staked apparently to keep the nut from
coming off and being lost.
Below is a close up of the binding post and one of the front of the receiver.
There are 17 binding posts that need to be unstaked so I can take
them off and clean them in my ultrasonic cleaner.

look for Nicholson thread files, or just buy the Craftsman thread restorer kit, it's only a little more expensive than a set of Nicholson files

You could clean those up well enough using a triangular needle file, else run a die down them if there's enough thread exposed for it to bite.

Yeah a thread file ain't gonna do that (but all mine have come from use-Enco.com).

I'd use the die idea or, depending upon required level of "beauty," grind out the staked portion with a 3"cutting wheel.

Need to know TPI as that is how they are sold.

Just take something and mark an inch or less (knowing the multiplier to make it an inch). Count and multiply if needed.

A nice old regenerative receiver. The binding posts are for separate coils (other wavelengths), correct?

I was gonna say the OP might wanna source a thread pitch gage first, but not sure it's gonna help you here as so few threads are accessible. But it's obviously coarse, just measure OD and that should give you all you need to know.

Pretty sure amazon has them. Few years back there was a great deal on them and that is where i got mine. Very handy to have.

You can also get them as part of a thread restorer set..also a good thing to have. Especially in the age of aluminum engines.

There are 3 8 in 1 files out there each with different tpi on each. I would get the CTS one listed above had one saved on eBay for several months myself, however a knife edge file rather than a triangular may be the best. tricorner files (triangular) are usually not narrow enough angle IME to accomplish thread restoration without obliterating too much thread. I have a few different knife files that do well.

This is what I'd do if they were staked, very small file, triangle shaped,clean it up.

A triangle file does one thread at a time too, and comes with three cutting edges all for the price of less than one.
