i need metric
i just ordered the gearwrench tap and die set

anyone have any recommendations

I just bought this craftsman set last week at a local pawn shop for $20.00. The 3/8-16 thread tap is broken, but the other pieces do not even show any signs of use.

Does any one know where I can find a replacement for the 3/8-16 piece.

I have a similar set, but the one that includes SAE sizes. It is made by Kastar (http://www.aeincorporated.com/Kastar/?page=store&category=7&num_items_to_display=50 and the sets are sold through Sears, Mac, Snap-On and quite a few others.

I really like mine. Of course they don't replace taps and dies (which I saw you already have) but do compliment them very nicely.

I bought the Craftsman branded (kastar) 48pc set. Seems like I will only be using about 6 of the pieces, but I am giving them a pretty good workout as well as using the thread files a couple of times.

I pulled my front strut/shocks today and the rubber top that bolts into the strut tower had the nastiest looking threads. A bit of oil and one pass of the chaser and the threads were clean and new looking. Thats maybe the best thing they do, oil, chaser, and blow off with high pressure air and the threads are completely clean.

I have that set (Kastar, same as Snap On et al) and could NOT live without it. I use it WAY more than taps and dies. Highly recommended!

I watched that particular item for a while myself. The 48 piece never seems to go on sale. I finally bought it during one of the 10% off $50 sales or something similar. Pretty happy with it overall........

I have the craftsman and mac versions of the kastar set both very useful and exactly the same except for the case. Even at that price very good deal you will be suprised at how much you use it once you have it.

I have Snap On's version of the Craftsman set and a Snap on I think 214 pc set came with taps and dies and drills and extractors use them alot and are great.
