ISO back in the 70s and 80s I used a compression tester that a mechanic didn't have to thread into spark plug hole. It would just push in the spark plug threaded hole and when he cranked the starter it just swelled and locked onto the threads and gave a compression reading. had a push button to release pressure. Worked like a dream. I can't find one today. Anyone know where to get one?

Sorry I don't know your question's answer.

I had a conical rubber plug on a compression tester, the first one I bought. I think it was a "Hawk" brand. You had to press it into the spark plug hole. I probably acquired it in 1971/'72. I have no-idea what happened to it since then. For a general 'compression or not' reading, it was about as-useful as a thumb on the sparkplug hole. The scale of PSI was an oblique linear scale where the 'angle' for the value reached would actually span probably 20+ psi. I suppose you would just have to use the same point on the lateral bar if you were trying to make a comparison reading after replacing the rings or something.

It did-not lock in-place.
