Three Phase Motor Wiring Question

I recently put a new three phase motor in my lathe. It is three horsepower and runs off a five horsepower rotary converter.

My mill, which is on the same converter runs in both forward and reverse without any problem. This leads me to believe the rotary is wired correctly.

However, my lathe will only run in forward. I'm using a barrel switch rated for five horse power. When I switch to reverse the rotary converter starts bucking. If I leave it in reverse for more than a second the 30 amp Buss fuses pop.

The motor is wired correctly. I've checked it a dozen times. Does anyone have a suggestion? I don't use reverse very often but it would be nice to have.

The switch is not wired correctly. The motor will run in either direction by swapping any two of the phase conductors. Make sure your switch is wired to do that.

He is correct.

Remove the 'barrel' switch and wire it directly. Then reverse any two of the wires. If it runs the same, the switch has an issue.

Make sure the switch you have is a three phase switch and not just single phase.
Inside the switch cover you usually find the switch wiring diagram.

Good luck.
