https://www.valinonline.com/products/esv152n02txb drive is listed as three phase only 2 HP. I want to use it to power a 3/4 HP 3 phase South Bend lathe. The literature says it will throw a drive fault for phase loss, is there a way to override this? I have not tried it yet due to wanting to do a capacitor re-form cycle on it first. Just looking for anyone with prior experience.

You will have to read the manual to see if it can be overridden in the parameters and the drive will have to be derated if it can operate on single phase input.

I would second calling the MFG. I just put a Teco on my mill though. It was super simple to hook-up and program. I was originally going to use a Hitachi but the manual was 400 pages vs 100 on the Teco.. I would recommend it.

In the lower corner of that page is a link to the owner's manual. It shows that the VFD can be connected to either three phase or single phase input power. I didn't spend time looking through it, but there must be something in there about the phase loss fault control.

Is this a drive you have or plan to order? The drive is available in 3 input versions each with a different part number - 1 phase, 1 or 3 phase, 3 phase.

Call mfr to be certain, but I think you're out of luck. Lenze makes a nice drive.

X3 or so on a Teco drive - I use a 2 HP drive on my 1 HP 3 phase mill. No issues with it. No up or extras required to run the machine. E-stops in < .5 seconds with no braking resistor.

Luke, can you show us some pictures of your South Bend lathe? And the motor name plate? Even the serial number?

I have a South Bend lathe WWIIish. And I’d love to compare the models!
