Hi all
I have a commercial treadmill. The plug on it has the ground prong on top. Then the prong on the right is horizontal. The left prong is vertical(normal?)
What do I need to do to install the correct receptacle and is it only for an electrician to do.
Thanks

Is it a 20a 120v plug? Look up a NEMA plug chart and find the match.

If the plug is factory, it already has the correct plug. If you are not aure if it is original, find the manual.

A photo would help in this situation...

Look for the nameplate on it. It will have the voltage and current on it.

NEMA plug/receptacle configurations can be found on this link: http://www.powercabling.com/content/nema.html

If you need 240 volts and 15 amps, the wiring can be reconnected at the panel and a new receptacle installed. But if 20 amps or higher is needed at either 120 or 240 volts, you'll need an electrician to run new wiring and install new circuit breaker & receptacle.

Or look the make & model number up on the internet and find the manual for it (if you don't have a hard copy).

It's a 20A plug believe that that configuration is 20A 125V rated, but not sure, the reason for the 20A plug is that a 15 ampere circuit is not adequate, have you looked at the machines data plate? It could be 240V also, don't have a NEMA chart handy to confirm it one way or the other.

I'm assuming this is simply a 20A plug...

You will need to have a 20A/15A outlet installed.

But before you do that, you will need to make sure you have 12G wiring on that circuit with the associated 20A breaker in the your service panel.

Installing a 20A outlet on 14G wiring is against code.

All just an assumption based on your description, so take it for what it is.

I'll try but probably too stupid to figure it out.:)
Thought I had a pic in phone but don't and not near machine until weekend. But thanks to all. Safety first so a call to a pro is on order.
