I haven't been able to find a three gang toggle switch metal cover -- I see plenty of 2 switches, but not 3 switches:

Anyone have any idea where I can order one for a 3 toggle switch cover?

I'm removing all the plastic faceplates on the exposed outlets/boxes in the garage and replacing them with metal covers. (As seen below.)

Or Google "metal switch plates"

A simple way is to use a stack switch & a single toggle switch and a raised cover to match, this will allow the use of materials that big box stores choose to stock, 2nd option is add a 2nd, 4 square box adjacent to the first, which is the most economical choice.

Raised cover.

Stack switch.

I was not concerned about color, that selection can be made at the time of purchase.

Otherwise searching through box manufacturers catalogs for the desired product & going to a proper supply house to see if they have it or can order a 3 gang box and cover.

Any particular reason for changing to the metal ones?

The original outlets (exposed gang boxes) all had cheap white plastic outlet/switch faceplate covers, which didn't work well in the garage. Showing dirt, breaking off on the edges, etc.

I've been replacing all the faceplates with metal box covers like this:

Thanks for explaining. I just wondered because I have plastic covers too and I haven't had a problem with mine. But after seeing the picture I completely understand because you have a totally different situation.

I'm not familiar with electrical and standard gang box sizes, but I believe this three switch box measures 5.5" width x 3.75" height x 3.5" depth, so I'd be looking for the plate that fits that size and looks similar to the 2 switch gang box cover I posted:

I'd rather not use a standard size 3 switch faceplate (which is larger than the box) or replace the gang box itself (to use the square stack switch option mentioned, etc).

It sounds like this would need to be a custom plate? (I'll ask about the covers shown here as mentioned.)

So you have a 3 gang box,1900 style. I just got a magazine in the mail that has those covers,it's not a common thing especially in residential. I found garvenidustries.com has some that will work but not exactly what your looking for. If I can find the magazine I will post it up

If the OP has a metal switch box then he will not be able to find a plate like he is looking for to fit it. Switch boxes have small lugs top and bottom that the switches and receptacles screw to, and then the cover plates attach to the switches and receptacles with the cover hold down screws. Switch box is nothing more than a multi version of a handi box.

Gang boxes have tabs on the left and right to retain the cover, and the devices, such as receptacles and switches, attach directly to the cover plate (and NOT to the gang box) and then the cover is attached to gang box by the screws on the far left and right.

(below) This is a 3 place switch box. Note there is no place to attach that cover. You screw down the switches, then screw on a cover.

(below) This is a 3 place gang box. Note there is not place to attach the devices. You attach the devices to the cover, then mount the cover on the box.

(below) This is the 3 place switch cover/mount that fits the box above. Note the switches mount to the cover, then the cover to the gang box.

OP needs to show us a pic of the 3 place switch box he has, WITH THE COVER REMOVED.

Ah, I see what you are talking about -- no place to attach the cover in the corner(s). So basically the only option for this gang box to have a "flush" metal cover would be to find a faceplate that measures 5.5" x 3.75" that attaches to the switches as you mentioned.

They used the wrong box, so no standard cover will fit in the way desired.
