Planning a new home build with a side facing attached garage and a detached garage/shop. Since it will be difficult to build a shed we asked the builder's architect to include a small space in the attached garage for garden 'stuff' (I currently have a shed for exactly this) - which he did. The nice thing about my current shed is I put in soffit vents and a ridge vent and that's where I store things like my mower, tractor, gas, etc...
The house (and detached shop) will have spray foam in roof and BIBs insulation in wall. Builder asked if I'd like insulation in the attached garage (they would just do batting in the walls and blown in cellulose in the attic.
This raised a question: What about ventilation. We are in the hot Southwest. I sometimes see newer homes with cast concrete grate w/ wire mesh behind it done on houses with rock siding (what we're getting). I was thinking of having them put such a wall 'vent' into my storage closet in the attached GA. Then maybe putting a fan in the ceiling to **** hot air up and out thru the attic/soffits/ridge vent or whatever...
In the below pic I put a red spot on the shed/closet to show a possible location for a wall vent... could also put vents in the doors into the closet/shed. One downside is it would be a great entry vector for scorpions. But then garages always are.
The soffits for the house will be closed but I could get vented soffits for the portion around the garage overhang...
Thoughts?
