Thumb ratchet ??

I have a novice Snap On question. I am looking into getting a thumb ratchet, and was wondering if this:

The Snap On ratcher spinner looks to be taller. This would hinder the ability to get into tight spots, I would think.

The S&K is a ratchet. The Snap-on attaches to a ratchet.

The Snap-On is not actually a ratcheting spinner. It fits between a ratchet and socket so that you can turn the socket by hand. It's one solid piece and is pretty small. The SK, on the other hand does have a built in ratcheting mechanism.

I have a set of three, from HF. http://www.harborfreight.com/hand-t...ies/3-piece-thumbwheel-ratchet-set-94011.html I took them apart, cleaned and lubed them. As often as I use them, they should last forever.

The SK one is quite nice. Not many people will ever use one enough to wear it out. Also, you can't put too much torque on a thumb-wheel so they don't get the abuse that a regular ratchet would.

You can buy the exact same tool at HF right now for $2.47 on clearance. They are made side by side with the Gearwrench ones in the same factory in Taiwan. You can also buy a nice little set with the exact same ratchet at Lowes for $5 right now as well.

i agree. very nice mechanism and nice finish. the ones that craftsman replaced them with, don't seem to be made to the same quality standards.

"Ratchet Buddy" by Innovative Products of America is nice too. I think that it's actually made in the USA', as well. I'm looking forward to getting a set soon--they have 1/2". 3/8" and 1/2" sizes.

These aren't Ratcheting Thumb drives; they are similar to the SO "Spinner Ratchet". My local Ace HW has these on clearance for about $10. COO = Taiwan. With fewer tools being made in USA, does anyone look at the benefits of buying locally verse online?

Those are adaptors for ratcheting wrenches, so that you can fit standard sockets. It's not the same thing as the SO "spinner ratchet".

I would call them thumb wheels instead, which btw are very handy to have on both 1/4" and 3/8" drive ratchets. Just not in the SO brand though--they cost wayyy too much for what they are.

I have have these two. The Snap On is 3/8 and the SK is 1/4. Don't use em very much.
