Thumbs Up for Amazon Prime

For those that don't know this Amazon sells tools. I began buying tools from Amazon last year after I got a Kindle Fire as a gift. WHen I registered the Kindle they gave me a free month or so of a Prime membership which I know I still don't use all of its benefits. The one benefit that I use a lot is the free shipping on any products marked Prime.

Well I am building a new Router table/cabinet and decided to save some time and just purchase the table top. I found the one I wanted from Incra and it was on sale for $239 plus about $59 shipping. The thing is heavy. Just before ordering it I remembered Amazon so I looked over there and they had the exact same thing from the same manufacture for the exact same price but it was marked Prime. So 2 days later I have my top and I save the $59 in shipping.

Now Prime membership costs money but I have saved so much more in shipping costs. Now my wife and I look at Amazon for everything. I have yet to have something take longr than 2 days to arrive and there is no sales tax verse buying in state at a retail store.

Amazon is not perfect but what is. I am just passing this along for those that tend to spend a lot on tools.

I buy a tone of stuff now from Amazon and I even bought 2 books from them this year.

By the way I love the kindle Fire. I watch videos on it and read the garage Journal on it and it is small enough that I end up taking it with me all the time.

+1

My wife and I also signed up for Amazon Prime a couple of years ago and it's been great. The 2 day free shipping has tipped the scales on making internet purchases cost effective, and we more than recoup our subscription costs back. My sister lives on the West Coast while my parents and I live on the Eastern. So Christmas is a lot of gifts purchased on Amazon, shipped for free directly to them. Can't beat it!

Same for me with prime.

Also love me kindle fire. Using it now. Want to make it better?

Now go download tapatalk for the kindle.

Best way ever to read forums. In fact I hate it when a forum isn't tapatlk enabled!

Don't forget you can watch movies and tv shows with your Amazon Prime membership. I use it on my 2 xbox 360 at my house and it works great.

It is cheaper than netflix (like $70 a year) plus you get free 2-day shipping on most items on amazon.

I love Prime! I buy stuff from there almost every week. The free two-day shipping makes so many purchases attractive, both for cost competitiveness and for the speed.

The membership pays for itself many time over.

Good to hear about their customer service/ease of returning items. I haven't had to deal with that, yet.

Plus you can borrow a free Kindle book every month, albeit from a limited library.

For those in California, sales tax is going to start up pretty quickly, so keep that in mind for larger purchases.

The only bummer is that the era of the killer deals seem to be pretty much over. I can't believe how cheaply I was able to buy some stuff over the years, not just the PB Swiss extravaganza. I'm not seeing nearly as many outright bargains on eBay anymore on tools, so maybe it's more a statement on the market in general.

Looking back, the funny thing is that if I had aggressively bought tools at the prices offered, it would have been about the best investment I could have made in the last several years aside from that huge stock dip.

Technically NC requires you put any online purchases on your state tax return and pay sales tax on them...so the sales tax thing is moot...

I like Amazon but honestly I have found stuff cheaper elsewhere including locally. I do find Amazon is a great place to look for reviews. We tried Prime last Xmas (free for 30 days) and it was scary how quick it was to spend money, like getting your first credit card in college.

I LOVE my membership. I have had it for 3 or 4 years. I go there for almost everything. electronics, tools, office supplies, etc.

I just bought a bunch of Wiha precision screwdrivers, torx, and nutdrivers.

It's like Christmas here all the time when the UPS man (women) shows up.

You do have to watch the price, but they are usually the best you will find.

The FREE 2 day shipping is great and for only 3.99 an item you can have it the next day.

It's not worth getting in the car and driving anywhere for the time and gas you save.

Prime rocks, I spend a lot more at Amazon than I used to but am probably saving on gas alone not to mention my time. It's cool not to have to work up a $25 order and waiting a long time for things to arrive.

Love prime. Bought a book yesterday, used, 3.97 shipped with prime. I generally dislike anything Apple, so I use Amazon for buying music, etc.

I have prime and love it. I mainly use it to avoid going to the brick and mortars and paying sales tax, especially on large purchases.

Maybe if my state didn't waste so much money, I wouldn't mind paying the tax...and yes, I know I'm supposed to claim internet purchases on my income taxes. I'm also supposed to claim cigarettes purchased out of state as well. I always seem to forget come tax time though.

If amazon doesn't have it ebay does. Im sure the government will figure out a way to screw us on tax sometime in the near future.

Yes, you always have to. I've seen a lot of stuff like that.

I believe that Kroil's issue is probably hazmat related. But it is usually cheaper from Brownells than from Kano, if you're looking for it (at least that's what I remember from my last order).

.

There is no technical to it. It is state law.

If one is audited by nc dept of revenue they will find these purchases in bank/credit card statements. One at that point is liable for penalties and interest.

Not sure what other states may have this as law as well

If our own secretary of the treasury can intentionally fudge on his taxes and give a stupid excuse to get out of it, I don't think we have much to worry about with Amazon.

I still have found little justification for the annual cost. Most of the stuff that has free 2 day shipping under Prime will ship free under the standard shipping anyway. I just haven't found enough Prime-unique items to justify the cost, and my desire to get stuff here a few days faster isn't justification alone.

I couldn't justify it until I had killed our cable TV subscription and replaced it with Netflix, Amazon is just another option that barely costs more than a month of cable. Now that I have justified it that way I use it a lot for little things like Superlube, appliance repair parts etc.

I can't believe that there's been no mention of the "Sharing with Family" option. You can share your Prime membership (just the free 2-day, $4 overnight shipping) with 4 "family" members.

All they/you need to know is birthdays (and they just have to match, don't even have to be real). Needless to say, I've got my mom, boss, a coworker, and a friend who are all "family".

I also had a $300 Fridgidaire casement AC unit delivered overnight. It weighed over 150#, but sure enough, a courier pulled up and unloaded it. There's no way Amazon made any money on that sale, although TBH, I kinda needed it right away.

They also regularly have a $1 credit towards Amazon Music purchases if you elect to use Super Saver Shipping instead of the 2-day. My wife buys a lot of classical music from Amazon, so it works out too.
