I have a tap and die set from IRWIN Hanson and only used it a few dozen and the chrome started to rub off. I emailed Irwin some picture and they said they would send out a new handle. I am glad they stand behind their tools. Just thought I would pass along a good experience.

Thumbs up and Irwin don't belong in the same sentence. Closing american plants and making Vise Grip pliers in China makes me sick.

X-3. But it's not Irwin's fault...It's the parent company..I believe it's Apex Tool Group which is now Bain Capital..

Nope, parent company is Newell Rubbermaid!

They have been good in replacing the missing little yellow pads for clamps. Not a fan for lots of reasons, but their customer service has been decent!

Wow. I thought it was Apex.
Well, at least Rubbermaid makes great storage bins and trash cans right here in the States.

Don't shun all their products. Their tap and die sets are still US made.

Oh are they? You're one dumb mo-fo.

I'll assume you are unaware of what Malwart did to Rubbermaid and give you the benefit of the doubt seeing as how you're from Arkansas.

It's not a secret, Frontline devoted a whole program to the subject a couple of years ago.

Summary: Rubbermaid raised their prices. Walmart wanted lower prices. Rubbermaid wouldn't do it. Walmart stopped ordering as much Rubbermaid and gave more shelf space to lower-priced Rubbermaid competitors.

Rubbermaid couldn't weather the loss of sales, had to merge with a competitor, and closed a factory.

What Frontline or other so-called "news" sources failed to report in their agenda to demonize Walmart was that Rubbermaid was already struggling before that. The company was suffering from the mismanagement that is increasingly typical of business these days, and couldn't adapt to the market. It had it's own issues that Walmart didn't cause, but likely did exacerbate.

There's a lot more going on behind all of these stories of "Walmart is bad and screws everyone."

Translation:

Malwart demanded lower costs (not prices). Rubbermaid couldn't comply with Malwart's demands while maintaining their quality standards, so Malwart shut them out.

The controversy is well documented. View the evidence and make up your own mind.

Very true. Its 10 times worse than what has been exposed to the public.
I will NEVER shop there & neither will any of my family!

Where I'm from has no impact on my knowledge of the situation or access to the information. Are you some kind of idiot?

Oh, and that's what Rubbermaid gets for having so much of their business tied to a single customer. I understand it just so happened to be the biggest customer in the world, but still it's not the customer's fault. I guess you and I see differently on that. I don't need to further justify my viewpoint (or opinion) on the matter. You believe what you want to believe and I'll believe what I want to believe.

i just don't understand irwin. a couple weeks back i was contacted through this forum by an irwin rep about a comment i had made a while back. said he would like to visit with me about it. i pm'd him back within the hour. so far, no response back. after a week i searched him out through irwins toll free number (he left me his name). i bet i tried calling him at least 10 times, probably closer to 20 over a 3 or 4 day period.

he never answered and it went straight to voice mail. his message did give me his cell phone number but wtf? if he doesn't answer at work i am not going to call him at home. after all, the guy came looking for me.

Bain Capital announced the purchase of Apex Tools in October of 2012 and the sale was set to be completed in the first half of 2013. Irwin/Newell Rubbermaid announced Vise-Grip production would be moving to China back in 2008.

i will retract this statement. i have been in contact with him. we both had some things to say and we both did some listening. i have the feeling we will be talking again.

an interesting thing i took from our conversation that i have stated before. when enough people speak and say things that are true and factual mfgs. listen. it may not change but the listen.

if you are full of :monkey_po ,troll, and blow smoke they know it.
