THWN or bare ground with Al USE 2-2-4?

I've got a lead on getting some Al USE 2-2-4 cheap. I'm thinking about getting it for running to the garage, but I'm not sure what to run for the ground. Can I put either 8 AWG THWN or bare copper in the trench with the USE?

technically the USE 2-2-4 is a cable and as such you cant add a conductor to it. Cant bury thwn, dont know about bare.
