Getting ready to have the apron of my garage poured. Have a 4" wide ledge at the OHD openings (half the foundation). Slope is about 1/4" /foot away from the building. Concrete contractor is recommending NOT pinning the slab to the foundation. Another contractor I talked to recommended pinning.

Pinning would keep the slab from slipping away from the building. But it would also restrain it from lifting during freezing and might cause cracking.

Slab is 34 x 34 x 5". Is pulling away likely with this small slope? The area is well drained - fairly flat but ground slopes away in all directions.

How big is the apron going to be?

I personally would pin. There should not be any cracking if the mix is right and it's thick enough.

Given you're in a freeze zone, I'd be inclined to dig down and put a footing around the apron if you are concerned about it. It would also help to keep the moisture away from under the apron thus reducing the chances of frost heave.....
