i can get this welder on the cheap, but its big and heavy. water cooled torch & foot control i believe its a rebadged miller 330. is it a good welder? is it worth the hassle of getting it home? i use a newer dynasty 200 now at work and love it, but its 3K new. are these welders scratch start?

I have an older miller machine from the 70's works like a dream. Requires a 240v 60amp breaker though so they can be power hogs.

I have had my Miller 330 for more than thirty years. I have TIG welded a TON of aluminum and just as much arcing of steel. A great range of settings. You can weld everything from aluminum foil to battle ships. Go for it!! I may be a geezer and thinking old fashioned, but I won't give up this machine until I am gone. Guess I'll have no choice then, huh? Anyway, I love that is is "repairable". No solid state at all. Anybody can fix it. No need to call a "tech expert". This is all just my opinion. (smiling)

Technically it probably requires 90 or 100A service. Will run on less, not wide open. They are good units but one might be spoiled after the Dynasty though.

We use to get these in on trade when i sold welding supplies people seemed to ****** them right up if memory serves me correctly that was one of the ones that you could change the voltage on right where the plug hooked to the machine i sold mostly Miller and Airco i might be wrong about the voltage change its been a long time ago.

these welders are great machines, if they work. close to zero maintenance required, not picky on the environment, you can burn it 24/7 as long as you can hold the torch. parts are dirt cheap.

normally they need 3 phase power 100amp.

downside is the transformers waste a lot of energy because of the heat generated by the component. the modern digital inverters such as Miller Dynasty and Lincoln Ivertec are 65-75% more efficient than these tanks. they are pretty loud(buzzing sound and cooling fan), too.

it's not scratch start, look at the bottom right corner, it has HF start.

Miller didnt make their own tig machines back then I belive airco made them if memory serves. But yes that is a good machine and the foot pedal means no scratch start. Im 99% sure that is not a 3phz machine, you never see 3phz ac/dc machine unless its an extreemly high amp machine.
