Tig welder recommendation

I'm looking to get a tig welder. I have minimal at best experience with tig welding. I figured I could learn the rest on my own through practice and YouTube videos.
Anyways I really just want it for welding thinner aluminum and stainless exhaust systems. And I want this to be a purchase where I won't have to "upgrade" to a better unit in the future.

What is your budget? For doing the welding you want to do your looking at a $2000+ machine that will last. Also do you have 220v?

My first choice would be a Dynasty 200DX. If thats too expensive, a Syncrowave 250 or a Precision TIG 225 are very good viable options.

Money no option? Never want to upgrade?

Modern technology, all the latest
Dynasty 280DX or 350
Or if you prefer old school tech
Syncrowave 250 or 350

IF you don't need the upper end power (and it sounds like you may not), the Dynasty 200DX is an awesome package and very portable. The newish syncrowave 210 is a hybrid, while not as feature packed as the Dynasty 200DX it will have about the same output power at ~1/2 the cost. While it is electrically portable, physically it is a bit limiting in the grab and go department.

I'd suggest you find a buddy who has experience with TIG welding and learn a few tricks before purchasing a welder. All the welders mentioned thus far are superb but if you don't know what you're doing the best tool can't make up for that. For the record, I know very little about welding other than my wife says I'm not allowed to.:lol_hitti

I have the dynasty 200DX loving it, but lot of other ppl from the other site , some might be here as well, likes the thermal arc machines claiming value for the $$$, but what ever you choose, get the AC capable machine..... and higher amp if you plan on welding aluminum.

What? You mean to tell me your machine doesn't have an autopilot button. :dunno:

of course there is a budget. My plan was to try and decide on 1 or 2 welders and then wait it out until I find a reasonable one on craigslist.

I don't really need mobility. If I can wheel it around my shop, but 95% it will be stationary at the welding table

So when do we all realize that "ffljingha" is a spammer and he either doesn't know that the spam link at the bottom of his posts isn't working, or he will get it to work soon. Hmm

Wow RC Universe, Diesel Stop, Home Brew Talk, Glock Talk, The Hull Truth, MMO Champion, Garage Journal, Split Coast Stampers, AVS Forum, Camaro 5, SVT Performance, Toyota 4Runner, Prate 4x4, Blu-Ray Forum, BMW M5, Stanceworks, Subaru Outback, you been a busy little spammer, but oddly enough, none of your links are working, malicious script?? Good effort with trying to contribute with posts that nearly make sense!

For TIG, I have a Dynasty 300DX and you couldn't pry it from my hands. I love it. I have had it for about 7 or 8 years now.

I like how " Since money isnt a problem " and " Money no option " and " If money is no object " crept into the thread with no prompting from you.

maybe just use a stick welder for now and buy a cheap tig setup and do some scratch start to see how it works out for you, people can get by without spending 3k on a welder for doing some hobby stuff...

Stick welder won't do any good for me. I had 2 and donated them both.
I already have a mig but it won't do what I need it to do.
This is all a bit more than just "home" use. I would call it "hobby plus"

tig torch hooked up to a power lug and bottle of argon will do most applications. you won't get aluminum (maybe look up dc+ aluminum tig, its possible to do thin aluminum without ac). but you can still do pretty much any other steel as far as i know.

thats with a tig torch run off a good stick welder
