TIG Welders

I am currently use a MIG welder, an inexpensive 110 Hobart, setup.

I like it but would like to learn TIG.

I am interested in the Hobart 165, any recommendations or opinions please.

I have 220 Available to me in my garage, so the only limitation I have is money.

I bought the miller 165 which is the same machine but different color, I love it, go buy it, tig is so much easier than mig

I also bought a Miller 165 and love it. Welds steel great, havent tried aluminum yet. I got a unit that was at a trade show, but never used. paid $1250 from local welder supply.

I have a Lincoln 175 which is about the equivelant to the Miller 165. I have had it for about 10 years & haven't had anything that I couldn't weld with it. I'd buy it again. If I were you I would buy whichever brand has a dealer near you for future support if you would need it. Other than that I think that Miller & Lincoln are both good brands so check the prices. The Hobart might be made by Lincoln anyway. I'm thinking that at least some of them are.

I also have a Miller Diversion 165.
Nice machine for what I do (sheet metal to 1/8", light tubing, brackets, etc.) so the duty cycle is tolerable.

Miller Diversion 165 and the Hobart EZ TIG 165i are the same machine. The only difference is the the Hobart has a standard torch and comes with a foot pedal.
The Miller version comes with a thumb wheel adjustment on the torch and a foot pedal is an option.

I hated the thumb wheel right off the bat and bought a pedal the next day and a Weldcraft WP9 torch.

If the Hobart was out at the time I would have purchased it over the Diversion and saved about $150 buying the foot pedal.

great machine. I also looked at the hobart version but got a better deal on the miller at the time
you WILL want to buy the add on foot pedal

I had a Lincoln, it went out. Warrenty paid off. Then I bought a Miller syncrowave 250.

I found a Miller Maxstar 200SD. Are they good units? It's brand new and he will throw in the "contractor" foot pedal with it all for $1900. Good,bad or average? Thanks for the help.

Never mind fellas, I found my answer. This is a DC only machine looking for AC/DC. Thanks antway.

Bought a Miller 180 with a foot control. Have done any big welding yet, but the tests are doing too bad. Thanks all for your advice.

I have a Miller Diversion 165. I dont even want a foot pedal after learning with the fingertip control. So nice. Built this stainless turbo kit with it.
