For those of you who laid porcelain tile in your garage, I am curious how you handled the edge where the garage door meets the floor?

Pictures would help.

I had one of those rubber seals in my garage that was glued to the floor and created a seal between the door and floor. Was thinking of doing this again.

Thoughts?

I had never set tile before, so I had no idea what the correct way to do it was (bullnose pieces -- never heard of 'em). So I just cleaned the adjacent concrete, set down a little concrete adhesive, and then tapered vinyl patching concrete from tile height to the driveway. Surprisingly, it's held up for years. But then, it never gets below freezing around here.

If you look in this picture, the darkline adjacent to the tile edge is where the door comes down. The tapered section extends from the tile about 10" out toward that drain.

Exactly who I was hoping would respond. Thanks Jack! I heard your garage was in Popular Mechanics. I'll have to try and locate the magazine.

I was leaning back towards epoxy but I visited my inlaws and they had done their garage and I just didnt like the way it looked (not sure they did a great job).

Plus I have been reading some threads on the cost of the kits and clear, and acid, etc etc. Probably cheaper to lay the tile if I can find for $1/sf. I have laid tile several times and while I am no expert, it wont be my first time.

Thanks for the quick post.

I'm currently tiling my garage with porcelain and I chose to use the titanium anodized aluminum edging that gets set in the mortar while laying down the adjacent tiles. My tiles are fairly thick so I'm using the 1/2" (height) with a taper. The bottom run is 5/8" long and it seems to work nicely providing a clean finished look too. You can get the stuff at most big box stores. A common manufacturer is Schluter, however, I'm using a "knock-off" brand that was purchased at the local flooring retailer.
