As far as lifting tile up and not making contact with the thin set or glue a poor install will give you that problem anyway. If these clips hold the tile flush but cause the tile not to hold then how does someone plan to not have that happen just because they did the leveling without clips? That being said if you need these clips to have a level floor you probably should not be laying your own tile. Standard grout lines should not allow enough of an offset to be noticeable or felt and if it is then you have a surface issue underneath. Maybe with very large tiles and superthin grout lines these could serve some purpose, but I really can't see them being any benefit in time savings and a very easy way to screw up an install by trusting the magic clips instead of doing the install corretly. Another problem I see is not being able to wash down the grout lines fully right after installing due to these clips being in the way. My dad has a tile business for over 40 years now and after years of helping him do both residential and commercial hospitals, schools, etc we learn the importance of a little extra prep in the cleanup after installing saved hours the next day when it came time to grout it.
