I have some tile jobs ahead me at home.

I found a used MK 101 that is in immaculate condition from the pictures. It is priced as very nice price.

I dont know anything about the MK tile saws.
Would this be a good first tile saw?

I’ve had a 101 for years. If it’s in nice shape and priced accordingly you’ll do just fine.
Use it , keep it nice and you may be able to sell it for what you paid for it.

We bought a nice MK about 35 years ago...knowing we would use it many times to remodel our first house. Well, that thing has done 4 houses...and paid for itself many, many times.

My suggestion would be to make sure you have a good water pump and that you clean it well. Should serve you for years...

Good luck OP.

MK was always my least favorite of the saws I have used. It is a fine saw though and will serve you well. It is professional quality tool but some of the features (or lack of) I didn't like as much as other saws. My biggest complaint was how freaking heavy they are. It will last forever and you can probably sell it when you are done with it for what you paid for it.

I have been using the dewalt saw for 15 years and I like it a lot, still not "perfect" but easier to move around for sure.

If you can setup the saw someplace and not have to move it often you wil lbe fine. I would estimate that thing weighs 90ish pounds. Carry it up a few flights of stairs once and you won't like it anymore. :D

The MK101 I own is for patio/driveway pavers. So blocks around 1’ square. Try making a length wise cut with this saw on a 2’ or longer tile. Not saying it can’t be done but definitely the wrong saw for the job. Also on that model it will likely have the thicker blade included.
I use mine for cutting paving stone and tile but have 2 different blades for the cuts.
Not saying it won’t work but will prove awkward.

The newer MK101 will cut a 14" diagonally and has a 20 cutting length. You can make it work for 24" stuff but it takes a little finagling of the tile. The mk hotdog blade is a pretty good tile blade. Home depot and lowes both used to rent out mk101's, and the Lowes versions were painted blue and not the standard MK red. Haven't been in the tool rental areas lately to see what they have currently.

I have liked all the mk brick saws I have used.

Thanks everyone.
It's priced at 500 bucks and doesn't even look like it's been used.

Here is a pic of my MK 101. This is my second one purchased from the HD rentals. The first one I resold to the young fellow who helped me do stone in my front yard. He eventually went into the business and ten+ years later he is still in the business. I sold it to him after renting it to him for a few jobs once he decided to get into the business.
I had the time to wait until another came on the market. It will again be put into service both here at home and this summer at the lake.

BBQGuy for $500 I would buy it:rocker:

$500 sounds like a good price

Consider this....when you are 'done done'....chances are, if the blade is still good, you can sell it for about the same price.
