Tiles or Mats?

I need to cover a small area of my shop around the work table. The max length is 17' but the width can range from 8' to 10'. I'm looking for something that I can stand on for long periods and still take some shop abuse.

Any ideas?

Just came back from Sam's and looked at their garage mats. Solid rubber, good build quality, but hard as a rock.

Still no ideas from my GJ Brethren?

HF has some of those foam tiles that fit togeather for a pretty good price or just get the cheap ones withthe abc's on them for kitds i think there even cheaper....i wish my parents had never thrown mine out

I did see some of those @ Sams:

A friend of mine uses these around his worktables as well. $21.68 for an 8 pack w/ borders. 33.5 sq.ft.

I use the foam puzzle tiles from my kid's old playroom for all sorts of things. But for long-term floor covering, they might be too thick and spongy.

If you're near a Tractor Supply place, I've heard that the mats for horse and cattle stalls are pretty good and not to pricey.

I have something similar on the boat. I can't afford those mats in the size I need.

If you have a farm supply near you, cow mats are a perfect solution that I've found. Super durable, easy to clean, keeps the concrete cold from creeping up your feet, and have just enough give to make long days in the shop a bit more comfortable. They are definitely NOT as forgiving as the anti-fatigue mats, but are way tougher, cheaper, etc.

Has anyone used these tiles in their garage/shop instead of the other commercially available garage floor tiles? The price seems better and they must be strong since they are designed for horses to walk on.

If you have a tractor supply around ( or similar type of store) take a look at stall mats.
They are thick rubber and about 3 x 5 in size. I bought one for my shop. The material is pretty hard, but it seems to work. They are heavy and could easily be joined if you want a bigger area.

I just compared tot he cost of tiles from Big Floors and the tractor supply seem to be more expensive. Also not sure about the chemical resistance.

I have an epoxy floor - installed when the garage was new (10 years ago).

Most of my tools are for machining, lathe, mill, surface grinder, drill press, shaper, band saw. I also have carts that roll around to supply me with all the accessories for my hobby.

While I like the floor, it does tend to get very dirty with lots of chips. I "think" I'd like to put down rubber mats under the machines, but it has to be thin enough (and durable, and not roll up) for the carts to roll over without a lot of effort. that means I might be limited to a mat that is not to thick.

I like the idea of the cattle mats, but I'm thinking it would be to thick. there are some mats that are thinner ( http://www.stallmats.com/products-ranch/dl/double-tuff.htm ) .

Does anyone have mats in their garage and roll carts over them?
