I have a small two car garage that I'm preparing to update. I want to tile and I'm leaning towards VCT.

I have a 3.5" high step (for lack of a better term) that goes across the entire back wall. It extends 24" from the wall.

My question is, how have you guys handled steps and ledges like this? Tile the top and use rubber base on the front? I'm just wondering how the edge is handled.

I may just say screw it and go with quarry tile. :)

I would go with tile including the front. I would but the edges, and not use any bull nose tile. Put a couple down and see how it looks. It's cheap, readily available and wear resistant.

That looks great! Is that just white and black tape on the side of the wall to make that zig zag pattern?

You're definitely going to want to install a nosing on the step. If you just **** the tile together it will get chipped from use quite quickly, especially if there are any voids underneath. Usually, concrete steps don't have sharp, square edges. You can use either a vinyl or pure rubber nosing that can be glued down with a tubed adhesive (construction adhesive, ect.). A wholesale flooring supply house would be your best source for a wide variety of sizes, styles and colors.

Nice work, foss!

And OP, I would seriously consider the VCT; I never fall in stores with VCT when it's covered in wet footprints and umbrella drips.
