Tiling Questions

I have a 19 x 21 residential garage. I recently obtained enough ceramic tile to tile the entire floor. Prior to starting out I have a few questions from folks here who may have attempted to do the same.

1.) Is tiling a garage floor with ceramic tile a bad idea? If so why?
2.) If not a bad idea is there anything special to consider? The floor is over 3 years old and had very little traffic on it.
3.) I have an approximately 1"x1" expansion joint down the middle of the floor. I was planning on running the tile from the expansion joint to the side walls. However, I do not know what to fill in the expansion joint with? Do I use silicone caulk, thinset, or do I need to use a piece of the plastic substrate material? Sorry I cannot remember the name right now.
4.) If this works, how long should I let it set up prior to putting vehicles on it?
5.) Any thing else anyone can think that I need to consider prior to doing this. I want a decent job, and not something that will cause more problems than it is worth.

I thank anyone who provides any information and I apologize if this has all been covered recently. I have done multiple searchs on the idea and keep getting mixed opinions. Thanks again.

I will be doing the work myself. I have done some tile work so I am familiar with the process. I just am not sure of what will happen doing it on a garage floor. thanks for any input

Where are you located? Do you have to deal with snow/salt during the winter?

Would be great if the OP can provide more info on the tiles, are you sure they're ceramic and not porcelain? Will the garage be used to just park cars? Or will it be a working garage?

Sorry for the delay in responding.

The tile are indeed ceramic and I bought them earlier this year at an auction. I was able to get them for 50 cents a tile and if I can use them that would be great and if not, not a great loss. They will be used at a house in Delaware so some issues of ice and snow. The would be put into a residential garage and just have cars parked on them. Minimal work will be done in the garage other than minor repairs on the family vehicles. The tile have a PEI of 4 I believe, but I am not where they are at the moment. They have some roughness in the tile so I am not as concerned about a wet floor and being slippery.

Again, any help is greatly appreciated and if there are any other questions I need to answer, please let me know.

thanks

just curious if you were planning on sealing/moisture protecting it prior to the tile? is it necessary?

wasn't planning on it. I guess I don't see this much different from a basement floor, but I certainly am open to advice.

No it's not necessary.

Debaglio, I'll answer all your questions very soon, when I get a few minutes of down time. I've been really busy the last few days.
