Has anyone built their garage/shop using either tilt up or precast concrete panels?

I have outgrown my 28x28 shop and want to build a larger shop. I plan on a 2 bay auto shop. I live in Las Vegas so it gets very hot in the summer and I plan to air condition the shop. I would rather spend a little more up front for energy efficiency. I am working on saving up the money for the build so it will be another year or 2 before I can start building.

I plan to have 14 or 15 foot ceilings and be around 32x40 foot. I figure with tilt up or precast I can leave the concrete exposed on the inside perhaps paint it. Electrical can be in exposed conduit. Outside would either be exposed aggregate or painted/stained. I prefer the option with least amount of continuing maintenance.

I know a lot of the commercial buildings around here are tilt up but not sure if it would be cost prohibitive for a building this small or not.

The other options I am looking at is SIPS. I would think the cost of the panels would be cheaper but not sure if the completed price would be as I would have to drywall the inside and either stucco or siding on the outside.

Sips are a good option for you and also look at ICF.
We have both type building on site where I work and they are great in the summer.
If you go,with the tilt up or precast I think the problem will be that the sun will hit the concrete wall and heat it up and then it will radiate the heat inside.
If you,go this route you should do something to keep the sun off the south and west walls.
You can put foam on the outside and then stucco. You can also shade those sides or,cover with ivy.

If you go,sips you can use the steel/foam sips that have the cool roof coating on the metal that will reflect most the suns energy and they will be pre finished for,you on both sides

If you plan to visit the Central Valley (Tulare) I would be happy to show you our buildings

Kaffine, I see you live in NV

ICF would be a great option for efficiency/strength etc, and tilt is also a great option if done a particular way.
I have a grwat deal of experience in both, and there is a way to do slender insulated tilt panels that actually stays in the price range as non-insulated pole buildings. If you want a full explanation and contact, pm me and we can do some email exchanges. I'm not selling anything and no skin in the game except for a strange passion for tilt construction.

Thanks for the responses.

rsanter : I don't make it over to California very often but if I happen to make a trip sometime soon I'll let you know to see if I can stop in. I hadn't heard of prefinished SIP panels before I will have to look into them.

Kridad : PM sent.
