How long can I wait after laying down Epoxy-Coat before I can lay down the top coat without the need to sand down the Epoxy-coat?

I want to lay down the top coat w/the Epoxy-Coat is still tacky. What is the min time needed and how long is too long?

Per the instructions you received in your kit.

If you apply multile coats you need to wait 12 hours. If you wait more than 24 hours you will need to rough up the surface of the first coat.

Thanks!

I assume that means the Epoxy-Coat after 12 hours (but before 24 hours) will still be tacky but not hard. . .is that correct?

If that is correct, will we need spiked shoes to put the top coat on? Or will the tacky Epoxy-Coat not pick up our shoe prints when applying the top layer?

Good question.
When you say top coat, do you mean clear coat?

As another member said are you using Epoxy-Coat as a primer then adding another coating of Epoxy-Coat clear or Polyurea clear?

No matter on what the next coat is yes after 12 hours you can lightly walk on the floor but do not twist your shoe or lean the shoe on the edge! Do not let the first coat stand on the floor more than 24 hours or you will have to sand it rough for the next coating to stick.

What I'm actually doing is the following:
1) Clean and Etch
2) Primer Coating (4100 from http://www.garagecoatings.com/Indus...ive-Epoxy-Primer-Sealer-15G.html?keyword=4100)
3) Epoxy-Coat
4) Polyurea (5073 from http://www.garagecoatings.com/Polyu...Setting-Clear-Rollable-Polyurea-2-Gl-Kit.html)

I want to make sure that after step 3 (Epoxy-Coat) that it is still tacky so that I can lay on the Polyurea.

Not sure of compatability but I understand the Epoxy-Coat warranty will be void.

Yes 12 hours after Epoxy-Coat you can apply the Polyurea Clear Coat.

Make sure to keep us posted and return with pictures of the end result.

Yeah. . .I'm aware of the warranty issue w/the primer but it seems to make sense to put it in. So I'm going to try it out.

I will post pictures of the progress.

Whats the difference between the Polyurea 5073 & the Polyurea epoxy-coat supplies?? Seems to be the same price why didn't you just use theirs?

That's a good question. I actually bought Epoxy-Coat without the "normal" top clear coat because there didn't seem any advantage. And I also wasn't aware of the details of their Polyurea when I purchased the system.

Since the company that sells 5073 is a 20 min drive from my house, I just went w/their system.

So I didn't buy 5073 based on performance.

I'll publish my results this weekend.

Call Christine. She posted her number and said call with any questions. That way you can post answers her so you do not get the good ol boy answer from any of us.

I started the process on Thursday afternoon w/the cleaning and etching.

(Note: I didn't not use what Epoxy-Coat supplied for the etching. I thought I needed something stronger, so I bought muriatic acid from Lowes.)

Friday morning I put on the primer (4100 Primer from Versatile Building Products).

Friday afternoon I put on Epoxy-Coat and flecks.

I'll tell you all how the 5075 Polyurea goes.

(Sorry I don't have pics of before, etching, or priming. I worked all those steps along and was too tired to take pics. I'll have some tomorrow before the topcoat and after the 5073 Polyurea goes down and after it hardens).
