Time Between Densifier application and Penetrating Sealer Application

Finally got the time to put down my Ghostshield Lithi-Tek 4500 Densifier and will be doing the 8510 sealer after.

What would be the recommended length of time from applying the densifier to applying the penetrating sealer?

This is from their application instructions

"Typical drying time is 4-6 hours at 70°F and 50% relative humidity.
Cooler temperatures or higher relative humidity can extend the
drying time. Treated surfaces will be ready for pedestrian and vehicle
traffic within 24 hours"

Doesn't really talk to the application of sealer over it. I'd like to get that down asap, but also do not want to rush the process if there is more to be gained from letting the densifier sit before applying sealer.

You want to wait 7 days before applying the GhostShield 8510. The reason is that the densifier takes up to 7 days to fully react with the concrete. If you apply the 8510 sooner the concrete will absorb much more and it will not be as effective.

7 days from densities to 8510. If you must you can go after 5 but 7 is best

It's getting closer and closer to decision time.

I'm going to be pouring a 50X36 shop/garage in a 50x72 pole barn (other half is for wife's hay burners) within a few weeks, and I was thinking of the same thing.

It turned out well enough. Time will be the true test. It honestly looks exactly the same as it did, only water/liquid sits on top. I read a lot before choosing this route and everyone said “its going to look exactly the same once done”. I thought to myself certainly something would change, but no they’re right. Which is fine. Really the hardest part was cleaning the floor as my slab was 5 years old.

While I would like a "pretty" floor, I am much more interested in having a durable, easily cleaned, impenetrable floor, so your description sounds fine.

I'd like to have some color, so the question I am going to have to ask is whether a poured-on dye is compatible with this combination. I've been doing some searching, as I don't like to ask "You idiot, we just answered that six times last week" questions, and I haven't seen it come up, so I think I may avoid the "idiot" appellation when I post.

So I was really wanting some color myself as well. Thought "gee this would be perfect if I got color and no maintenance". But EVERYONE I suggested that to said it wouldn't look good at all, muted/matte etc.. Basically for color to look decent you have to put a epoxy or similar clear topcoat, and then you're back in the same maintenance situation you're trying to avoid with the penetrating sealer.

So your choice is
1. Densify/penetrating sealer - Looks EXACTLY the same, but is sealed from liquids etc
or
2. Stain and coat - Looks nice, clear coat might require maintenance down the road


Looking back I probably would have been fine either way, but i'm good with what I chose at this point.

Interestingly, for whatever it's worth, I had a long conversation a few days ago with a very nice guy at Ghostshield, who recommended that I use the 4500 densifier first, then use the dye, then use the 8500 sealer. I am probably going to try that myself, but I'm still justifying the expense over 2,400 sq ft.

By the way, does anyone have any strong opinions about 10-mil no-brand vapor barrier vs 15-mil Stego-Wrap? The site is not wet, exactly, but sits on flat area where water passes by on its way down the hill, and I want to be sure I can keep the inside dry. My concrete guy thinks it's overkill, and it's an extra $400 and over an hour drive each way to pick it up from the only nearby supplier.

No problem, I have been impressed by the Ghostshield 8505 I put down. If the 8510 is even better then you will be truly happy with the choice.

Hi,
8510 is the higher solids/non diluted Ghostshield, and gives fantastic performance!

We do suggest it gets used with the densifier (to be applied about a week earlier than the 8510 or 8505).
