Time for a new Vise

I've been making due with clamps and ingenuity. It's time to get a proper vise. What are the your recommendations? I don't need anything too heavy duty. Just normal house, wood and mild auto work.

I picked up this one... my first vise, so wanted it to be fairly good:

I got it at Northern Tool, in one of their stores, but did not see it on their website.

Definitely look for an old USA made vise. You can buy a new USA vise but your wallet will cringe! Check out the vise thread in the tool section.

If you want to buy a new one, get a Ridgid, otherwise an old American vise that you can restore if required.

in my limited experience restoring an old vise is they way to go, you can get them pretty cheap and after a go over they will last your lifetime. I'm still working on mine so you can take this advice for what it's worth.

I wish I could have found one. HArdly saw any when I was looking. A couple that did pop up were not cheap. But if I had more time, I would have preferred and older one to refurbish.
