i use a variety of socket storage methods,
lisle flat magnetic tray
MTS magnetic
Kobalt 2 sided rails
SO metal rails, CM metal rails, unbranded plastic rails
hansen trays
and my favorite,
original metal socket trays, (the type that socket sets used to come in)

they all have their purpose, and ive got some particular storage needs between garage tools and working tools.

I really love the time savers.. ive got the 1/4 size for my metric and imperial, and the hex drive also. They arent available down under or else i would have more..
Ive just got a magrail for 3/8 and 1/2 and they are great too. My only complaint on the magrail is they are a little cheap when it comes to giving enough posts. Metric sets tend to have an extra couple of sockets over their sae equivalent. But aside from that they function beautifully.
Not cheap but worth it i say...Jonny

Vim Magrail TL. The best. Also $. Got about $1k into mine. Thanks to Strouty...
Yes, I got out for ~$300 by letting NTX have them on backorder for six weeks. Otherwise I would have been out $400.

They are the most stable and densest option I found. IMG_20170324_192637.jpg

And don't be afraid to modify them. I separate the magnets with a pick (about 3/16") where I deem, bandsaw the aluminum and deburr, then push magnets back into place. The magnets are 2" long, so you can do any length you want in 2" increments. I bought a ton of new 16" ones at the swap meet and turned them into 10+6, 8+8, 4+12, etc...
