Hello All,

I'm a 50 year old IT geek living on 3 acres in Katy, TX just west of Houston with my bride of 30 years. We bought this place to retire on and it is a paradise, missing only a building to play in. We are planning on building a 40x60x14 foot building to use as a multi-purpose storage, wood shop, metal shop, auto shop facility for all of our various hobbies.

Looking forward to getting some ideas and advice from this forum on completing this project.

John

And after much discussion, groveling, and gnashing of teeth, the powerful leaders of the county have granted me a proper building permit, so that we can begin construction on this project.....of course Houston got 18 inches of rain the next day and the two feet of water pouring across my construction site may slow that start down a bit.....

The orange tape is supposed to be the finished floor elevation of the building...

Yea we're actually bringing in 55+\- truckloads of select fill to build up a pad site 2+ feet from the ground and then 5 inches of concrete to top it off. The finished floor will be about 4-5 inches higher than the house and the house stayed dry, so we're relatively confident it'll stay dry.

Welcome! Sorry I missed your post the first time. I'm a slightly older (let's just leave it at that :D), also IT geek, and fellow Houstonian. I now spend most of my time at our ranch in Brenham. I just finished the shell of my new barn, 50x50, also a multi-purpose shop, tractor barn, workshop, etc. The steel erection is complete, and now I'm working on finishing it... lighting, etc.

I'm in the part of Washington County that got 20" of rain last week.:scared: Came thru ok, just a lot of water!

Good luck with your shop!
