Time to drop the 'star' thread rating?

Just like the 'tags' went away....is it time to drop the 'star' thread rating?

As was brought up in 'Free Parking', there's somebody who feels the need to give every thread a 'one star' rating. I guess it gives this person some satisfaction, but I don't know why.

I thought you have to post in a thread to rate it, but I guess not?

If the ratings go away, this person will have to find something better to. Or, better yet, maybe the mods can see who's rating every thread 'one star' and ban the little ****.

After looking through the threads, their ratings were much right on. Maybe it would just be better to do away with "free parking"?

I didn't know you could rate threads....
First time I actually rated a thread...you just got 5 stars.

Personally I don't really care one way or another. I never even noticed the star rating system till it was pointed out in the other thread.

The tags were used in insulting, offensive and not work safe, family friendly ways and pretty much had to go away to avoid overworking the moderators.

If someone has nothing better to do than give threads random one star ratings that really doesn't bother me. Perhaps it'll keep them entertained and out of trouble until their old enough to hang out with the grownups.

I never pay attention to the star rating, and can't say I've even rated a thread, really have no interest in it.

You are giving the person(s) that is giving the low rating satisfaction just by bringing it up.

I'm not bothered by the ratings, but I don't like seeing the stars all over the Free Parking forum. IMO it's just needless clutter.

Does anyone avoid clicking on a thread because it has a 1-star rating or click on a 5-star rated thread just because it has 5-stars?

I don't use stars to determine my interest in a thread. It is the topic that causes me to click or not click on a thread not someone's rating, as ratings are very personal & subjective. Oh, and I had no idea we could rate threads here.

My favorite feature on another board I frequent (survivalist boards.com) is a "thanks" button... if you like someone's post in a thread, you hit the button and it thanks them for their post. If not, no harm, no foul. No silly stars, no nada.

Personally - I don't even look at the stars.. to me, if a thread looks interesting to me, I'll open it. If not, I pass on it.

The star rating becomes problematic in sections where replies are not possible. The only things it raises are doubts.

It's there to rate the thread. No need to be able to post in the thread. All we'd need is more critique debates.

What are you describing? What came to mind when I read this is that in order to satisfy the condition of critique debates, either there would need to be a separate level of discussion or commentary created for rating each thread as it gets rated - or entire sections of the board would have to be reopened to replies for discussion which would currently violate some of the rules there. This seems far messier than eliminating or modifying an anonymous, easily-abused system of ratings.

Meaning that we already have way to much back and forth in most threads. Called sarcasm, maybe I should have used one of these..,
