I went out and bought this vise off Craigslist today. I should have read the Vise thread before I bought it. From what I can see, there are no markings on it besides the 5. I'm afraid I might have bought a Imported vise.

I bought it from a Gentleman in his 40's, he said it was his Grandfathers. I don't know if he was lying or not. I ended up paying $50. Anyways here it is,

Here is where the label used to be, looks like it was red and white, I can make out a Ja. Any clues?

Looks exactly like an early import large vise I bought over 30 years ago and broke, welded, broke again welded again, and gave away to a guy who broke it in less than a year...

The big number cast on the side is the giveaway.

EDIT: Also note the chrome plating remnants on the handles, and the Philips head screws holding the jaws on. More tell tails for an import

Plus, see how the handles on both the main screw and the swivel lock are relatively small compared to the size of the vise? Like they are not in proportion.

Compare to an old USA-Made vise, and you would see MUCH beefier handles.
