Time To Start Thinking About A Lift? HELP...

Hi all! I have a problem. I am looking around for a 4 post lift for my Vettes. The problem is my 01 Widebody is 14" wider than stock. I want to put my 64 on top and the 01 on the bottom. The 01's stock width is73.6" plus the 14".
Now if you were lift shopping what would you purchase?

Hi Junkman. I am down in Stamford CT. I drive both cars all over! Come on Down anytime! We recently drove the Widebody up to Lake George Vette Fest. Thanks for the compliment michael. We are in the process of redoing the Garage can't wait to post how that comes out!


One more thing the widebody is low, really low need to find something with approach ramps (if that makes sense)....

I live in Griswold. My garage, "Manland" is getting there, albeit a bit more slowly now during the cold weather. Two weeks ago I installed my new Challenger 10K lift. See photo album here... http://public.fotki.com/tsumner/manland/

Backyard Buddy will custom make you a lift to your specs.
I bought a BB from a fella in CT. because it wasn't quite right for his Vette.
BB custom made one and I delivered it to CT. and brought his 6 month old one home.

I think you just need to forget about the lift. Give me the 64 and you won't need to worry about it. ;-)

Terry, how hard was it to lift the lift into position? I am going to buy a BendPak shortly and I need to know how many friends to invite over for the install. Kurt

The more people you have the easier it is to do. I did mine alone the first time, with the help of some old car rims and some wooden blocks. Once you do one, you are an expert. If you need help, holler, and if I am free at the time, I will give you a hand. Junk.

Are you going to drywall the ceiling/walls? If so, do you see a problem of doing it over/around the lift, or would it be better to wait until the interior is finished before installing?

Also, it looks as if there is about a foot between the wall and the column. I wonder what most people are doing in this regard. I am thinking of a bit more space for mine.

FWIW, Having looked at most of the competing products firsthand, I have to strongly recommend The Backyard Buddy. Have had mine a couple years now and I love it, and most importantly, I feel safe under it...

Beautiful cars there 64!!! I know when I was looking into lifts the 4 poster I was looking at could easily accommodate dually pickups. I've got a 73 Stingray I want to store up on a hoist for the winter and use the lift for repairs and projects. Planning to have room for a C6 in the future.

Lots of copy, but worth the research... tons of good information. After reading, Back Yard Buddy will totally fall off your scope of potential lift manufacturers!

I'm another fan of the BendPak lifts having just installed a HD-9-B. The Backyard Buddy doesn't have certification or the slack cable monitor that will engage a secondary safety lock (independently at each column) in case a cable were to get caught or break and cause just one end of the lift to descend. With a BendPak, your lift would drop 4" to the next locking position. All, I'm not bashing backyard buddy. I just want to point out what is obviously a very significant safety advancement here. Hopefully, this is something that others will follow suit on. Finally, for me the certification was also something that I needed to have.
