My house is old, built in 1900 if what the realtor says is true.
The basement isn't very "tall" if you'd like, the steam pipes are in the way, i hit my head all the time on lightbulbs ( mercury
) etc. the floor joists barely clear my head ( i'm 6' tall )
the floor appears to be large stones loosely fitted together, with some grout like material in the middle.
is it possible to remove the floor, dig deeper and pour a new floor? or is this structurally unsound? will this weaken the foundation walls? they are also large stones fitted together until they reach ground level then its brick with a cement facade.
